I have heard today that the pre 1986 vehicle emission requirements are changing in Victoria. Apparently modified cars will only need to pass a simple test(idle and a max Co reading) to meet requirements. Therefore Turbo A series engines will be able to pass unlike under the current laws.

I haven't seen anything in writing yet, but heard it from a mate that does the VASS engineering certificates. I have the testing equipment and he has the Quals!

Hopefully this goes through soon!

does that mean no pollution gear on late engines into older cars
or just original style engines that came with them from factory?

Seeing as retrospective law changes are Illegal, But you do live in a Socialist state they probably don't stick to the rules I would research very carefully before cutting any metal.

I would think if you rang the authorities five times you would also get five different answers,I know an Engineer in NSW RMS and he stated the place is now full of Pakistani Uni graduates who used our system to gain residency and they have absolutely no idea what they are doing.
Victoria may be the same so you would find the older Aussie engineers in the system not game to point out the imports don't have a clue but they say nothing because they don't want to lose their Super it really has turned into a Joke in NSW, Victoria may be just the same these days.

Example if building a Hot Rod 32 Ford you cannot use a new build safe strong chassis but as long as you incorporate 30% of the ancient Ford chassis it's pretty much open slather,Pretty dumb when it is supposed to be illegal to actually cut and weld any full chassis and Truck chassis are riveted not welded if modified, So as you can see the Pakistani Import Engineers in NSW RMS are not very bright, Victoria likely has the same issues.

Its not illegal to weld chassis, we get chassis extensions and wheel base mods done regularly and they are not riveted. Weld at a 45 deg angle with a reinforcing section inside going through the welded section.
This is part of the heavy vehicle modification regs. I am not sure about light vehicle regs, but if we can weld a truck chassis which will be rated to 23 tonne GVM I doubt they would have any issues with a welded chassis on a car.
I do remember years ago a guy repairing a crashed falcon told the department he had used a new bodyshell and they wouldnt approve the repair, so he went back and told a different guy he had replaced the front chassis rails and a full long rear cut and they approved it. Problem was, it's illegal to remove a body plate and affix it to another vehicle, which is what he technically did for the body shell, so he told them it was 3 cars made into 1 and that was fine. Red tape technical bullshit.
