Do they interchange? When fitting an A12 into the Datsun 1000, which pan did you use?

A12 pan has stiffening ridges on the front face

A10 is plain sheet metal, with a seam down the middle

A12 pan is about 15mm deeper?

I'm the same as D in that i have never tried, but I imagine that they would interchange without any issues.

the A12 might just be deeper to hold more oil rather than a clearance issue.

The A14/15 def needs a bigger sump though.

Yes, might fit. Does the A12 with A12 pan fit right into the 1000?

A15 uses the special pan with slight bulges on the side. A14 uses the same oil pan as A12

I used the standard A12 sump in my 1000 hillclimb car. There was just enough clearance on the crossmember, in fact it put a dimple in the bottom. So just use what came with the engine, & get the extra capacity. As a friend of mine always said, oil is cheaper than metal.

washers for spacing are a must with a12 into 1000s stock mounting
as it hits the crossmember over bumps. Prob A10 sump is better
on an A12 but new seal and time leans towards using washers
unless rebuilding the A12 for use into a 1000

After seeing in japan what overbored A12 engines can do
I would again fit an A12 with 77mm bores for an A13 like in a 1000
response is crisp, has the extra capacity and power needed
for that smooth surge of power rather than big torque of the A15
