My old 1200 sold for $5100 with the slotted mags and A14 engine. The new owner put in SR20DET and hakotora kit and sold it for $41,500

The Sunnys sold here (made in Japan) aren't rustbuckets, maybe the NZ-assembled ones weren't rust-treated or painted the same?

I may be wrong but I understood the sunny coupes were imported into nz fully built up which should make them equal to the Sunnys sold in USA? The sunny coupes I have had have had a bit of rust but far less than the 1200s I've owned! I've had two round headlight Sunnys (A14 5spd) and they had a bit of rust but nothing too major. I thought all the early datsuns had similar rust proofing ie nothing???

datsun 1000 are the opposite of their later brothers they rarely rust
all 70s and 80s datsun rust profusely world wide

Yes, Datsun 1000 (built in the truck factory) supposedly had zinc coating on all the body panels making them quite resistant to rust

Other Datsuns have rust-treatments such as electro-static paint and primer coating (i.e. not much)
