I saw a 5mm oversize L20B on Gumtree the overday (90 mm pistons). It was in the Brisbane/Gold Coast area. It needed a hone & a rebuild. He also had a head for it he was selling separately. Gumtree has a few engines at the moment, maybe there's something close to you.

Wow
L20B 85mm bore x 86mm stroke = 1952cc (stock)
L20B 90mm bore x 86mm stroke = 2188cc

12% increase right there

I thought it was in 'more items from seller', though it could have been in 'You may be interested in'. You wouldn't have to fit a Z24 crank for this one. The block should have been sonic tested before overboring. I'd also heard a tale that some L18W blocks would go to 90.5 mm, which is a common VW piston size, & would get you close to 2 litres. This was before they released the L0B. There were plenty of over L series engines on Gumtree, some of them were even in NSW. There's also a gearbox claiming to be from either a Stanza or a R30, to me it looks like a standard Bluebird 5 speed.

Is this for your orange coupe or something else that needs an L series head?
Reason I ask is the L18 bored around 90 doesnt leave much room for further rebuilds
but also after 40 years bore wall have corrosion and even 89mm could have pin holes
that show up over time. Baz at datsport used to do a C sleeve and grouted 90mm
then he uses a torque plate for honing made from melted L series head for trueness.
If you dont mind restamping a Z22 block gives you factory 87mm L20B deck height.

So Baz at Datsport can put liners in an L series block. Both Wilkins Bros here is Sydney claim not to have heard about this. What I'd like to try would be to get an L18W block, bore & liner it to 90.5 mm & get it close to 2 litres. I can get forged 90.5 mm pistons with the same pin size as the L series. Way way back the VW pistons were the ones to use in Speedway. Would like to try this with a KA24 head. Might shoot an email to Baz for some information.

Speak to Baz hes a champ, very reasonable man
he doesnt have the same old fellas he used to use
for the sleeve work so might be a challenge atm.
He had melted several L heads to make the hone
plate as close as possible to a factory head

Thanks for the replies. This one will be for a 1600 I have, ideally I'd like to find the same spec L18 I bought for the coupe already built which saves a lot of coin than building something from scratch

If you can get an orig 1600 L16 bottom end and have full sleeves installed
you should go for a L16 with L18 crank and no pollution gear required.
Full sleeves are 130-160aud each inc bore and honing

modded LD28 or FJ20 conrods 140mm c-c and honda K24 cast 90mm pistons
500-600aud

Factory ka24de head make 150hp yet with restrictive exhaust and cams.
Cleaning up the slags port castings, some match porting you have a head
capable of 180-200hp if 10.5-11 to 1 comp, cams, exhaust, 45-47mm carbs.

Also if getting billet cams you can get the ends after last lobes taken off
they seem to serve no purpose except for timing on fwd ignition pickup sensor.
8500rpm with good valve springs should be no issue with L18 78mm stroke.
