I called to the yard that had the Buicks and he has sold them. He gets more cars like that than anyone I know. I will check out the 510 today. I already know that I will get it. That is like buying a couple of SU carbs and getting a couple more and the rest of the car for free. Now, how could I ever pass up a deal like that. As for which handles better, the 1200 or the 510, I have always assumed the smaller the car, the better it would handle but only a G-meter would know for sure. Mareo

Exactly! But he(we) haven't been able to find one anywhere! This was what he first wanted for a tow vehicle. All of ours had L24E's and Diesels, not L28E's, though. I reckon a good Datsun tow car in the states would be a 910 as they has L28E's in them so would have the power and not be too bad on fuel (not that you guys have to worry that much about gas cost!) I stand (or rather sit) corrected. This would definitely be a good way to get a Toyota (can't stand to call it a Lexus ;^P) V8 in a Datto. ;^) Another Application showing Lexus V8 transplant success. Check this out (If you didn't already know about it) http://bullet.ion.tm/ Chris.

Yea, that was me. A kid came to my shop with it in the back of his p/u, had a custom crossmember and apparently was installed in a '70 510. I did a little research and found that the Y44 was also used as a platform for early Electromotive management systems. Came from Japan, sold it to a guy in Hawaii, I'm in Portland, just show ya it's a small world. I've got a coupe w/ a KA24DE in it, been on hold for a year, now back in action, ready for management, fuel system and sheet metal. just thought i'd let the world know! Drew

They shot this around the 510 list a while back. Isn't the 910 the same as the first Maxima, it was only called a 910 in the States for a year? Or did the 1st Maxima a VG30? How about a 810? That'd be cool. Kinda like a 4 door z-car. How much should a car/truck weight to tow a 510 (2200#) on a trailer? I've heard double the weight you are towing (2200# plus trailer) but that would be a BIG car. Daniel

in 1980 when the 810 was retired and replaced with the more square 810 this was actually a 910 if you read the v.i.n. in 1981 it was called the 810 Maxima. in 1983 they droped the 810 and the Datsun and just called it Maxima. the 810//910/Maxima from it's introduction till 1985 had the 2.4 liter L24e engine

Funny you should ask the tow vehicle weight question. I just read an article on Grassroots Motorsports web page about towing. They said that the tow vehicle should weigh more than the trailer and load. They did not give any kind of formula though. So in your situation, a 2600# vehicle should work. That shouldn't be too hard to manage. They went on to recommend 10% of the trailer weight should be on the tongue. So YOU should center the car in such a way that the tongue has 250# on it. Hope it helps.
