I had a Diesel powered 81 810. Man, that was the slowest car I ever owned, but, it went 130,000 miles with almost no problems before I rotated it out
of the fleet.

My friend, Mike in St. Petersburg, had a diesel VW Rabbit in the early 80's. It would top out at 60 and slow down to 45 when you turned on the air conditioner. What a
joke that one was.

I had a ride around in a mid 80s VW Jetta when in Poland recently, it was Diesel, It went great, doing 140kph and got great fuel economy. Especially on the much cheaper price
of diesel in Poland. Could only just beat a Fiat Cincquisento (Fiat 500) off the lights though..so it wasn't neck breaking acceleration.

Hi,

Well... europe is infested by a diesel fever, we have VW golfs with a 1900cc TDI engine, 150hp, 6speeds that can do less than 9s from 0-100km/h and have a +220km/h top speed...
and do <4 liters for every 100km at 90km/h. And this is the specs new... if you simply change the chip, you will have more than 200hp!!

I still prefer a revy gas engine, but my brother loves is 10s 2.2TDi Nissan Almera.

I knew a guy (isn't it funny how that is the way theses stories always start) who had a diesel Rabbit. He said if you drove it carefully and really tried to conserve fuel, it would
average 50 miles per gallon. But if you really dogged it and drove as hard and fast as it would go, it got 49 miles per gallon. I guess if fuel economy is what you are after (never
mind the smoky, stinky pollution of a diesel) then they are the way to go. Personally, I'd rather walk. Barefoot. On hot coals. With broken glass in it. Carrying an A-12 block.

If I wanted a diesel, I would be driving a Semi. There is just something about the slowness of diesel that hasn't appealed to me. I know horse power is horse power but I don't
like gas V8s either.

You could ask Exhaust technology in Adelaide on 08 82727500 who worked on the Greedy 1600 - SR20 DET swap (240K gearbox) or Bruce Towns Enginerring in Melbourne who did a 120Y coupe twin
turbo SR20 (SR20 gearbox) on 03 9580 8519.

I'd go with Adelaide first, after all you're over there and the regulations are slightly different from state to state, although to the rest of Australia it seems that SA's got the most
lenient ones....

The engine bay size isn't an issue - although the height of the block is a squeeze. The transmission tunnels are different though between L series and A series - an auto 1200 makes
fitting a bigger gearbox easier.

Note that both of them used different versions of the SR20 - this may or may not be relevant - neither myself or any of my friends have ever tried an SR20 swap.
