I have been searching the site and could not find proper confirmation with this question. Whether an A12 with the alternator at the front of the block on the same side as the distributor will fit on a 1200 Coupe crossmember or whether it is the same as the A14 & A15 and needs small mods or a ute crossmember? I am looking at using one of these A12s so I can fit my A14 head etc.

the 120y/sunny style a12 still needs the same
modifications to the engine mounts as the a14/15's.these engines have the alternator at
the front of the distributor side of the engine,
& have the distributor & fuel pump moved in relation to the early a12's.

Yo Brock, see if Datto devil has still got the ute cross member. If you can get it, an A14/15. will bolt straight in.

Why not just put the A14 in? Your A12 will never match the A14 for horsepower. Or just put the A14 head on your 1971-1973 A12 -- all you gotta do is drill two holes.

I have a dilemma. I have some options:
1/ Old A12 with extractors and 32/36 setup and a cam

2/ A14 with the same mods

3/ Old A12 Draw Through Turbo and I do have a friend who has built heaps

I want to keep the A12 as I do not want to stray to far from what is original but I suppose all these options are completely reversible. Any thoughts???

good point -- all the options are reversible.

My thoughts:
1. If you really want to keep it stock, none of these work
2. If you want a performance increase, skip the A12 hot-up, and go for either the A14 (automatic 18% hp increase) or the turbo. The latter sounds like fun
3. Swapping the A14 for the A12 is easy as swaps go.

Dude, get Damon's Xmember, and soup up (maybe even turbo) the A14. Keep all the original stuff so you can return it to original if you grow out of going fast.
And remeber,.........

I am really keen on the turbo A12 after a day's thoughts. Might give that a try...
