I got all geared up about the J15 but now I know its crap I might look at finding an A14 or A15. I know I have asked this question before!:(
So what engine should I get? I want one that is easy to fit in (not to many hassles)and what sort of gearboxes go onto the engines. I dont suppose an A12 gearbox mounts
up?
I want as much power as possible (can anyone suggest setups) as later when Im older and have more money (im 17) I might rally it or seeing as im in Tasmania i might look
at Targa Tasmania 2001.
Thanks for any help
Simon

A14 or A15 are the way to go for sure if u want a power upgrade. Try and get one with an oval port head first. And u know that they can produce 170hp with the right work(like Andrews A14)
The A12 gearbox will bolt up no dramas. But i broke 3 of them with a mildly worked A15(tho burnouts could have contributed to that) Theres also a 5-speed box u can bolt to any A series
from the sunnys. Alltho these are DAMN HARD to find. I was lucky enough to buy a 1200 with a 5-speed allready in it. And if u do find one it will prolly be more than $500. Andrew used a
celica 5-speed with a bell housing from Dellow Engineering i think(correct me if im wrong Andrew) I dont know how much that costs tho. Hope this helps in some way.

As I was told by Andy once, bigger is always better. Go for the A15, but first check your registration laws as you may need an engineers certificate (if you are going to register
it). In NSW you can register an A14 without one, but not an A15 which is 15% above the power of the A12.

Thats to bad on having a hard time finding
5 speeds Down Under. I have purchased 3 of them now and they are easy to find in the States. A person here could make some money selling them but to ship would be to expensive.

Not sure on the A14 / A15 swap. I have the A14 in my 1200 and it really revs. I know you can really push the RPM's on the A14. I have a 1982 210 with a A15 in it and it runs out of
RPM's to soon.
I purchased a A15 for my 1200 and am in the process of putting it back together. With a bigger cam and head work, maybe I'll see some improvements. I still like the A14. Very reliable.

The only reason the A14 revs that extra bit harder is because of the shorter stroke of the crank. Otherwise there identicle. I had freind were i used to live that had a
custom made stroker crank. Made the A15/14 about 1700cc. I wanted to buy it off him but he would not sell it. Hmmm..i wonder if he has finished his engine now. I wonder how
it turned out....

Here's an Idea: anyone wonder if you took an A15
crankshaft and had it offset reground and used
A12 con rods and I bet some other A series pistons
you could get almost 1700 cc of displacement.
They take a 302 ford crank and do this using
2300 con rods to get 348 CI from a 302. I'll see
if it's a possibility, We'll see !

Most capacity I have heard of is 1608cc thats bored 120 thou.Suppose anything is possible if you want to spen the $$$ Unsure what sort of rods would fit anyway A12 would be a bit
short. I know you can stroke a A12 with A14 crank A10 rods 120 thou over pistons giving it 1530cc :) hehe a few rally guys have done this as they have to run A12 blocks.
