Wow
Didn't I have a great Friday.
A few guys passed me on a long straight in a 2litre daewoo nubira.
Mu 1200 ute has no accurate speedo cause of the 4age with twin carbs on the side.
When they were a couple of hundred metres in front I caught them after about 2 km.
They stopped there car one said
**** we were doin 180 and you caught us. I was in fifth gear and the tacho was a 5000rpm.

ON my old ute with the CA the speedo would wrap around past 0 and back up to 20kph before the computer cut in, And this is still in 4th gear with one left. I dont have a tacho but there is a fair bit left in 4th at the cut out point too. And my speedo is un acurate too, i read 70 when doing 60Ks.

Does anyone know what speed factory CA computers limit to??

Maybe..If you don't have the factory speedo hooked up (it contains the speed sensor divider unit that converts the outut from the electrical speedo drive). Then you cannot have any speed cut. There are wires for the "Speed sensor" input to the ecu via the dash loom. Without this input, the ECU cannot speed cut. It also cannot cut fuel on overrun, leading to a small increased in fuel usage, and small exhaust backfires on overrun.

I rode in a CA18DET powered coupe. We were pulling 6500rpm in fifth gear. That was running about 8 pound of boost. He had been running over 18 at times.

All these top end speeds are very impressive, & i'm jealous as hell, but next time you are checking the oil, have a feel of just how thick the metal is that your car is made from. I had a real good look at the chassis thickness in my 1000 coupe during the repair process & now i KNOW why they are so light, even with an iron engine. 1200's are slightly heavier only because they are slightly bigger.

Structural grade tinfoil just does not cut it at 180k into something solid, like a full sized oncoming car, or a reasonable sized power pole or tree.

Think about that next time you check your oil.

I know my mum calls my car the coffin, but its the price you pay for such a cool car. and i run 225's so there is still plenty of stick and pulls up pretty quickly too.

I kinda like the idea of being buried in a 1200 ute

..The coffin..it's more like the raided egyptian tomb.

What's the story, have you got the ute back yet?

Maybe I missed the "It's back" posting.

I agree 180kmh on an unsafe coucil road is asking for trouble.

1000 people don't die on Australian roads every year on purpose.. I can't imagine how many die on US roads.
