Righto, swapping an A15 into an auto B210.

The back of the crank is different. The A15 has no snout to centre the flexplate, the bolts also bottom out by about 20 thou also.

I'm sure someone has come across this before, or has a quick fix. Does anyone have an A15 flexplate lying around? Open in new window

The A12 is on the right.
I haven't checked to see if the torque converter fits yet, ran out of time, looks close enough though.

can you not use the A15 bolts?

otherwise, whip out the angle grinder and shave a bit off the bolts - just round the ends to make fitting easier.

or use non-crush washers when bolting the flex plate up. you get them from Coventry's for about 20c each.

and surely 6 bolts are enough to centre the flex plate....?

Above is a pic of an A15 flex plate.
The left pic is the crankshaft mounting face.
The right is the torque converter side.
If you look in the right pic you will see there is a spacer that sandwhiches the flexplate between the crank and this spacer. The left pic shows that the locating bush is part of the spacer. With the flex plate removed, the spacer can spin inside the flexplate but can not be seperated from it.
This flexplate came with my A15 but is now destined to go behind an A15 in Melissa's daughter's 1200 when I get round to it.

I would look into what Dattodevil said and see if the bush can be taken from the A12 and put into the A15 crank. Then I would do like Pro240c said and use shorter bolts or washers.
When measuring the crank mounting face to the bolt head face, this flex plate and spacer measures 5.6mm thick.

Now that i look at it again, I think I have the mounting faces mixed up. Looking at the marks from the torque converter bolts, it looks as though the spacer side actually locates itself over the end of the A15 crank and the spacer is sandwhiched between the crank and the flexplate.

i thought, from phunk's pics, that the RH shot with the sleeve would slot over the smaller crank end of the A15 and the torque convertor would mount to the flat face of the LH shot...

Yeah, looking at the 1000/1200 workshop manual, the A10 flexplate is the same ( sizes unknown ) and it definately bolts opposite to the first way I described.

That whole round piece on the end of the A12 crankshaft pulls right off!!! It may be stuck a bit cause of a tight fit, 30 years of never being off, and surface rust, but a little bit of twisting and prying will pull that piece right off the end of the crankshaft and you can tap it onto your new A15 engine!!!

It's just a spacer/adapter plate that comes on all automatic cars. The flywheel picture shown also has that plate fiteed on but it looks like its "stuck" onto the flywheel versus the end of the crank. I assure you it is just a piece that pulls right off, I have done at least 3 auto--> manual conversions in 1200's and this is the case EVERY time.

As you can see from the photo, the A12(auto) has had a blown headgasket for a few years, It looked like it was cast on the crank. That is a load off my mind, thanks guys. I will give it a whack tonight.

And I was considering a manual conversion. . .
