and how kilometers would you do in a racing season?? 200?, 300?
is this engine going to last....say 10,000km before it needs a rebuild??
Pro 240c was probably thinkin somethin similar.

Thankyou Drdato and Lemonhead for the welcome .
SOME SPECS

All the porting and valve work on the head are done by Greg which is where a lot of horse power
is made on datsun motors. It runs 2 x 45 webers,
4 into 2 into 1 extractors, simple electronic ignition, 10:1 compression ratio, valves and springs are Greg's secret, bottom end of motor is
standard.
80% of the power is produced by the cam grind that I run, which I got when I worked for the datsun racing team in the 60's & 70's the rest of the power is from the knowledge I have learn't over the years on how to build and screw a motor together that is strong and reliable.
Anymore information would give away all the tricks of the trade and everybody would be able to build a motor with similar horse power to mine.
Thanks Greg & Kay aka vixen

this motor has done 4 2day sprint meetings at morgon park plus friday practice,2 2day sprints at stanthorpe, pittsworth steet sprints,6 hillclimbs at mt cotton all in 2004.
its done stanthorpe last month and this weekend is morgan park. the motor seems down on hp now will be rebuilding it shortly, should only need rings lap valves in and gaskets.
pretty cheap year of motor racing
bye greg

i reckon that for an engine with that power per
litre,thats bloody great reliability.a full season &
it probably just needs new bearings & a recut of the valve seats to get that edge back.i'd just like to know a bit more about the 1000.it's got to go like a very fast thing, that much power in the lightest body type (2 door sedan).
it looks to be handling very flat & powering on
controllably.& the wheels only look to be 13's,thats got to restrict the brake size.this is
the wrong part for all this info, but please start another reply in the main forum.by the way,i used to own the 1000 coupe in the photos from oran park,so i really am interested in what
you've done to the car.

To all you people that keep talking about MY 200hp a15 should be talking to me as i built it and has been running sprints and hillclimbs for the last year and is due for a rebuild shortly.
Jonathan lane of fast lane automotive in nerang did all the tuning and dyno work so you could verify horse power with him,and stop talking so much rubbish
greg sutherland

hmmm, there's some very cluey guys who've thrown their $0.02 in here, and their opinion is not rubbish.

I also run at Mt Cotton and Morgan Park in my 1200 coupe, so I know we're talking about the same car now. I didn't realise he was running with a 200bhp engine all last year, and honestly the car does not perform up to that claim.

He told me last year he had over 150bhp at the wheels so I watched with interest, and some concern! I was getting kinda used to being the fastest Datto up here but the prospect of the same kind of power in a much lighter vehicle had me more than a little worried! And I really didn't like the prospect of being beaten by a smaller capacity car! But I came to the conclusion that he was getting mixed up with flywheel figures, based on his times and speed on the straight. 150bhp at the flywheel is a very healthy A15 - that's 100bhp per litre, which is pretty damn good out of a 2valve pushrod engine, but its a far cry from 200bhp.

Craig Allan's A14 1200 coupe is a bit faster than Robert's 1000 at Morgan park, and he has about 108bhp at the wheels. It's a well sorted and well driven little car, and he and his father have many years experience with the A series engine, with a speedway background. It has been (and remains) the benchmark for A series engines in this form of motorsport up here.

For the record, my coupe had a Stew Wilkins L18 with 146bhp at the wheels at the start of last year, and it was already 3 seasons old. That's around 190-200bhp at the flywheel by my estimates. It was 1995cc and was worth $4000 in parts alone, at cost price! So i was suspicious from the outset when I saw your ad, but was willing to go out and have another look at the car thinking it was a new engine fitted this year.

I don't mean any offence, but when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Harry

I should add, I know there are some A series out there with more than 100bhp per litre, like b310gx's rocket. That thing surprised the hell out of me at Bathurst a couple of years ago!

hi. our little 1000 has all the power we need(150hp at the back wheels which mathmaticly eqates to 190-200 hp at the flywheel). last year was roberts first time ever in a racing. he picked the 1000 because no one else up here has done one , andtrying to develope the car and him has been slow. chassis developement is hard working with a transverse front spring and getting all the power to the road.you and craig have had more time at it hope fully this year we may get a handle on it.very small buget.
hope attatchment comes through with this email. greg.

that is a valid point. The car doesn't really seem to exhibit any real handling vices though...
Anyway good luck with it this year. I'll look forward to seeing it drop a few seconds of those times.
If you had a look at Craig's car or my car, you'd realise that we're all in the same boat regarding the budget, and we've all developed our suspension ourselves over the years - the tinkering is a big part of the fun.

I can recommend a very good and very reasonably priced race suspension specialist on Brisbane's northside if you're interested. I'm sure he wouldn't charge more than $50 to pop it on his aligner and have a good look at it to see what's what, and if there are any obvious problems with the setup. wheelbases (L & R), roll centres, ackerman, and basic camber and castor settings, and identify any bumpstop or other binding problems etc. PM or email me if you're interested.

I'd be happy to have a look as well, and give my 2c worth on the handling issues. I used to own a 1000 coupe, so I'm pretty familiar with them.
