I have to have a moan. Fuel prices in NZ are getting f*cking outragous. I borrowed my dads car the other night, cos I needed more boot space. I put in $10, and the needle didn't even move above the "E". And by that I mean It was still BELOW the "E" mark. (Yes it is a tank) The oil companys are bending us over like a cheap slut. Every time crude prices go up, so does gas. When our $$ goes down, gas goes up. Unfortunately, the reverse is so seldom true.
Oh yeah, I read in the paper the other day, that the oil company's have posted a record profit too. BASTARDS!!!!!!! I reckon that the blokes in charge of setting fuel prices at the diferent oil companys must all work in the same building. Probably in the same room. Where will it end?

Quote: When people stop buying gasoline. Convert now to electric, and no worries about rising fuel costs, eh? But then you're kind of limited on power, the fastest electric-powered 1200s are only 13-second cars.

Thats why we own datsun, cos they are cheap to run. Even at $1.48 a litre it is still relatively cheap. We have been spoilt for so long.

Yeah its bloody insane, the BP in my suburb of Riverside unleaded is at $1.23 and my dad's BA Falcon im driving atm eats it up and now im out of pocket!
I heard on the radio about 2 months ago that its suppose to hit at least $2.00 per litre by Feburary 2006... now thats going to extreme
But surley its the petrol stations decision at what to sell it? Thus the cheaper the petrol the more customers will flock there and in the end I'm sure they'd come out on top in the profit areas... As A14 said, 'when will it end?'

no,the petrol station is usually locked in to a contract with the supplier, who tells him what price to sell the fuel at.when petrol discounting was happening, the station was buying at one price, then the supplier was telling them how much they would refund,to allow a lower price.the petrol station is usually only making 2 - 3 cents profit per litre,so a 40 litre fill up gives the servo 80c to a $1.20.this is why petrol stations sell so much other stuff,so they don't go broke.

I afree with all of you that petrol prices are ridiculously high at the moment and unlikely to get down below $1.00/litre again.
However, let's all remember that Datto's are cheap to run and we are far better off than those who run Falcons, Commodores etc let alone V8's. I can still get just under 400 km on a tank (mine i9s a daily driver), so I'm not complaining.
It will probably make our cars more valuable if fuel prices keep rising.

So, current NZ & AU fuel prices are around U.S. $4.00 a gallon?
Here in San Diego, we're about U.S. $2.80/gallon for regular, and we're supposed to be the highest in the country.
