Hi everyone I just received my pair of Dellorto DHLA 40 carbs today in the mail and I am very happy with them so far but I would just like to make them nice and shiny like they once were. I have them soaking in a bucket of hot water with about 6 tablespoons of bi carb soda mixed in, I figure I will leave them overnight and see how they look in the morning. Would there be a better way to make them shine again? I have tried auto sol metal polish but had no luck! I want them to look like this

Try a solvent like paint thinner or xylene. Or even standard engine cleaner. I assume you're talking about dirt and oily grime. Solvents work great on oily grime. I used low-odor paint thinner on a transmission and it almost looks new. Just get some junk rags and go at it. (and only if it's not painted!)

this may sound stupid, but carby cleaner?

It eats through some of the baked on crap pretty darn well, costs about $8 at supercheap auto.

I know a guy who used oven cleaner, but he did warn it was REALLY harsh & had to be washed off pretty quickly.

bi carb is great - but you need elbow grease to get the best out of metal using bi-carb.

put a lump on the end of an old sponge and rub like crazy - it buffs up pretty nice.

you can get an even finer finish by using toothpaste first, then bi carb.

or go buy a dremel and polishing compound...

ROFL

I bought a little bottle of autosol to do a bumper and grille, paid the $$$ coz I thought it'd be good, but it did about the same job as toothpaste, just without the minty smell!
Could probably use it as a cutting compound on your paint too.
