The sender is the problem, not the gauge.

You can either spend money on a gauge you don't need, or you can pay for petrol for a couple of months..

Becuase the rest of my dash is all autometer and but i dont know what the ohms for full and empty are on the sender unit

There a few different ones:

0Ωs Empty / 90Ωs Full
73Ωs Empty / 8-12Ωs Full
240Ωs Empty / 33Ωs Full
0Ωs Empty / 30Ωs Full
16Ωs Empty / 158Ωs Full

Which one do i need???

okay, what state do you live in,cause my answer is going to be relevent only if you live in sydney.remove the sender from the tank,& go to olympic instruments on the pacific highway at pymble, just up from ryde road. they can measure how the fuel sender reads.i'm going to do the same for my sunny,as i've replaced the water temp & fuel guages with a large water temp guage,& i'm going to put a small vdo guage either in the boot of the car,or in the dashboard.they might even be able to supply the guage.if you're in another state or country, try in the yellow pages under instruments.

ps
they also made up a speedo cable for me to suit
the stanza sss 5 speed thats going into my sunny coupe,so if anyone in sydney needs a speedo cable,i recommend you give them a call.plus they have lots of cool, old guages & stuff to look at while you're there.

If you know which wire comes from the sender, you should be able to test it without pulling the car apart.
Get a multimeter and test the resistance to ground of the sender wire.
Simply test it twice. Once when full and once when its anything but full.
Should be able the work out which guage will suit from that info.
