With a bit of help from Kevin (aka, kev-dog lol)

and my new head gasket (other one had some surface stuff missing thus caused a slight water leak out the right side of the head) it is all back together!

I took the wagon for a spin around the block and to fill up with petrol but it still isnt tuned right so its still running fairly bad. I just gave it the once over, set back to base carb settings and retarted the dizzy a fair bit, not sure how much tho.
My question is, at almost to full lock turning right there is a knock knock knock sound coming from the front left wheel area. Ive replaced all the bushes around there and also disasembled the steering gear sprayed fitted new boots and put back same with the disk rotor and strut assembly.... I havent changed anything apart from bushes and new 2" lower springs, 195/50 15" TRX rims and 8mm spacers, any ideas?
Also theres a simliar noise from the rear left tyre aswell, kinda bumps around and knock knock knock when driving... Im thinking its the spacers and their moving the rim around but their done up pretty tight!
Could it be that there isnt enough thread for the nuts now? Theres about 4 - 5mm for the nut too grip on.

Cheers guys!
Dave

im going to book it in for a tune/check over see iif everythings ok tommrow or thursday...

congrats on getting the wags going again
4-5mm isn't alot of thread for the nuts to be holding on to with your spacers ... clean the inside of the rim and the face of the spacer, wack a bit silastic evenly onto the surfaces and stick 'em together, bolt the wheel back on nice and tight and leave it sit for a day. Shouldn't have the spacers move after that.
but first - go visit your local nissan dealer and buy some longer wheel studs .... cant remember which one but a skyline came out with some about 7-10mm than the 1200 ones

looks like a useful kitty and a perfect name for a cat!!

4-5 mm is not enough for the wheel stud to hold the nut with as the nuts are made of crappy metal usually and that really isnt safe at all!!

think the wheel studs you are talking about are R31 skyline as they are longer then pulsar by about that amount too

go to the wreckers with an old wheel nut, a ruler and a big hammer!!

Yeah me and my mates made up the thing (unless someone else uses it too!) when your seedy your Kevin Sheedy - kevin seedy, so when im 'kev' i take it out on my cat!!
Lame i know!

But anyway....i did get some longer wheel studs, ordered them from niceproducts.com.au, they were/are good but then i realised that the TRX nuts wouldnt have enough thread and the studs would hit the end of the nut before the nut could get to the rim. And plus i couldnt get my axels out for the life of me so i just put the old ones back in! I will most likey just chop off the end of the old TRX nuts and get some new lock nuts from Bursons aswell when i get $$. For the moment ill ride on steelies!

'scuse my ignorance but what is slastic boofhead?
Where can i get some from?

Cheers
Dave

Is that what you guys think the knock knock is?

No solution to your problems unfortunately...I have a question for you instead.

I've just pulled the head of my A14 - it's off getting checked and decked.

What did you use to clean up the top of the block and the tops of the pistons (I have a lot of carbon on the tops of the pistons and thought it would be wise to tidy up before putting the head back on.

So did you polish up the top of the block until it was shiny? or just slap the gasket back on?

Mildman, in january i took my engine to a workshop and they completely re did my engine: hone, bore, decked the whole shebang. BUT! When i pulled my head it did have detonation marks and carbon residue as you have described in your own instance. I replaced 2 out of 4 pistons (1 cracked, one splattered !) but the other 2 i used degreaser, a bit of petrol, rags/soft wire brush and rubbed quite hard until most residue came off.
I got it down to faint black lines/splodges around the outside of the dish but thats about it.
Depending on how old your pistons, some are past their used by date and are not salvagagble to look pretty and clean again! A got a set of 4 cast ACL pistons for $105 so its worth getting some new ones. This includes pins aswell.

The deck it wasnt too bad but did have gasket marks/residue on it so i chisled these off carefully and for the big bits carefully used a very thin grinder disk to get them off without touching the deck at all. Came up as new and didnt have ANY scratches or dents from the cleaning process.
It doesnt need to be shiny new, infact im sure a bit of roughness mite sufice well for the gasket to imbed itself into, mite not but im just
guessing here!

Anyway let us know how it goes!

Cheers
Dave

MM - if you are just doing the head on your A14 then leave the piston carbon as is. Sometimes removing that in situ leads to other problems - just think of it as free compression! Just use a razor scraper to clean the top of your blockand then wipe it down with some thinners.

To clean the internals of the engine, do a seach on water injection. . . Think of it as a steam clean. . .

Top of the block. Get yourself an oilstone, soak it for a week or so. Don't go silly. If there are carbon marks that don't seem to move, you may need to skim the block.

Oilstone=what you sharpen a knife on. Try the $1 shop.
