hey fellas, im thinking a 3.9 would suit me better than the 4.1:1 centre i have in my vanette h190

where can i get a 3.9 ratio to suit, or is there other ratios below 4.1 available? i was thinking i could make a sprung load locker for when i put it in and have another go at my mates wrx

but the main reason is to drop the revs a bit when cruising

the series 3 blubird h190 have 3.9 centers. The axles are 29 spline i think the vannete axles are only 27 spline!!! not much difference between a 3.9 and 4.1 anyway

ca18,
are you sure about the spline difference? I was hoping they were the same so that I could use the disc brake axles straight into the vanette centre 1200r/c - I have a series 3 B/B 3.9:1 centre that I won't be using but it's a long way from Melb to get it!!
Cheers

1200RC, the centre you need is the 27 spline one from a 1600 wagon. I have a 3.9 one in my y, if i can find a 4.4 i'll let you know. Or you could go up in rolling diameter of your wheels/tyres.

cool, thanks for the info

that would be good trbo18

the bluey axles wont go into the vanette diff anyway, as the diff are diffrent widths, i.e. diffrent length axles

otherwise you could just put the whole bluey diff in

Vannette axles are 29 spline as well. The 27 spline axles are only used in 4 pinion works centre LSD's.
1600 wagon and roadster axles are 23 spline same as H165.

michael,it might be the difference is in the size of the splined end of the axle, not just the spline count.the vanette h190's with a15's have the roughly the same size outside diameter spline as a h165.the later h190's from b/birds,gazelles & the z20 powered c20s are
much bigger.i've got a gazelle housing drum to
drum,which has a 3.89:1 ratio,that's what it said on the build plate,it came out of a auto s12 gazelle.the manual gazelles have a 3.7:1
ratio,as found on the same plate.the z20 c20's have 4.1:1's(manual) & 4.3:1's(auto),& some early navara's have 4.6:1 h190's,before going to the borg warner style centre.so the b/bird centre might go in the housing, but the axles wont work. all the ratio info comes courtesy of
the plates in the engine bays of cars,or cabins of the c20's.the best one i've found was a nissan diesel truck, with a 6.5:1 ratio.

I feel your pain Micheal. Why aren't you useing an h165? I have an axle and housing, but am also desperatly seeking a 3.9:1 head for it. I too am wanting to phantom grip it when I can find a head with the right ratio.

the car always had a h190 in it, so im sorta sticking with that, my other car (which is not in use) has a h165 with a sprung load already installed, but then if i swapped that over i would loose the track i have in the back and my flares would look silly empty

im going to start making phantom grip/sprung loads for the h165 and h190, so dont go spending big on the commercial units if you might want to get one cheaper through me
