Hello,
A few weeks ago I bought this 1979 210 for $100 US dollars.

Mods (as told by owner): A15, bored 30 over, honda pistons, cam (spec ?) header, 32/36 weber, 3:90 rear, ported head.

Problem: 5 speed tranny trashed.

I plan to clean-up the the car, and I have found a 79 200sx with rear discs and it looks as though the rear will swap right into the 210. I need to know if the L20b series motor will bolt in with little to no fabrication. The motor seems to be a tad too tall for the hood but I dont mind cutting the hood and adding a small tastful hood scoop for clearance.
I am an old toyota corolla lover (3tc power rules ) Here are two of the five toyotas I own.

I do like this little datsun and would love to drop an L series motor and tranny in and then sell the modded A motor.

Welcome to the club. I think you'll find plenty of information here about L20 swaps as there's one going on right now a member is doing and there's probably been more in the past. If you use the search bar on the left I think you'll find it all. Remember, your car is called a Sunny in OZ and the body's a B310 so that will help your search.

Hey...good purchase. We didn't getthe two door version here...but I like the look of it. Does it have air conditioning by any chance?

Welcome, and have fun. they are a nice light car...an L20b will be awesome in it.

You got the earlier one with the round headlights which give it an older look. Once they got square (in '80) they start looking too modern for my tastes. Fix it up. It's nice to see guys giving attention to these later models.

i'm in the middle of doing an l series swap into a b310 coupe,so heres what i've had to do.i've used a nissan (p)a10,known in australia as a stanza, engine crossmember & brackets.i have redrilled the holes that bolt to the block 10 mm lower, for clearance between rocker cover & bonnet.i'm using an l18,but theres enough clearance for an l20.i'll also use engine rubbers from a 6 cylinder r30,which are stiffer.the transmission came with the engine,& is a 63a 5 speed.to mount the transmission i've used the
gearbox crossmember from an auto b310.with the slight filing of two holes, this bolted right up to the rear holes in the transmission tunnel.i
don't know if this will work with the longer 71a 5 speeds.for the tailshaft,i'll be using the tailshaft from the stanza, which has the same output shaft spline as the 63a g/box.for a radiator,i've got the radiator from the a10,& will
cut it down to use the sides off a b310 radiator,so it should bolt in easily.i'll be using a rearend from a vannette, which i had a10 mounts welded to,but the h165 rearend from the a10 is a bolt in.so basically, find a a10 if you can,get the engine crossmember, the gearbox, the rearend & the tailshaft,& an l20,& fit them to your 210.

Yes nice pick up dude, the 2 door Sunny looks great with a bit of TLC.

Tom210, have you seen the orange Sunny 2 door coupe around town? Its got a black it hink bonnet scoop, lowered, nice exhaust and nismo stickers all over it! It looks like it would go hard although looks CAN be decieving!

Why get rid of the A series engine? So much can be done with this little donk, sure the L20B would be fun and is a much stronger engine but surley drive this for a while then see if you still want to do the conversion. Once you've driven an A series you'll never go back
But id like to see this done to a sunny as i'd always thought about this....

Happy tinkering!

Dave

edit: YAY!! next posting rating! Home away from home woohoo! only 950 to go....oh god

I have just done this to a B310 coupe also. Bear in mind, that you may have clearance on the bonnet, But you may find the air cleaner from a downdraft carb sits too high. (My L20B has side drafts, so I didn't have this problem) The other problem you will definatley run into with the taller engine is sump clearance on the steering arm. You should have no worries whatsoever getting clearance when the wheels point straight ahead, but at full lock it raises quite a bit. If you like I can email you a picture of my sump after we took corrective measures.
