People I have a scenario that whilst driving my car I notice my brake pedal get harder and harder till the point of no pedal travel and the brakes eventually locking on. This also happens if the car is parked on a Hot day and the brakes are locked before I even drive it, though during the cold mornings the pedal falls to the floor then eventually gets hard. Note: I have bled the brakes several times starting from the furtherest point yadadada and this has had no affect at all. I know that there is an airlock somewhere in the lines because the problem is temperature dependent but I need to be sure, has anybody experienced this before??? Any solutions guys!! The car is a 1200 ute with drums all around and it has a new mastercyclinder and no leaking wheel cyclinders. Help appreciated fells. Thanks Gil

Gil, I thought air in the lines was only ever responsible for spongy pedals not locking brakes. My friend had the same problem with a drum braked Morris Minor that had a Datsun 1200 master cylinder pedal conversion. It did the same thing on a very hot day at speed. The car kept slowing with burning brakes until he pulled over. Nothing we did seemed to help but when we went to get a tow vehicle and came back the brakes had cooled and were fine but locked again near home. We traced it to the pedal plunger adjustment in teh back of the booster. He had been dissatisfied with pedal travel and feel and had adjusted the plunger to the point where the brakes were brilliant. This was in the winter months and they worked great for many months until a 38 degree summer day. We put it down to the master cylinder maybe being just on all the time with too little tolerence which was OK until everything heated up too much. All we did was back off the adjustment a fraction and they never did it again. You haven't done some adjustment like that have you.

My thoughts are as follows: sounds to me like you've got two seperate but related problems. If all this started after the new master cylinder was installed, my guess is that the master cylinder was not bench bled and that's where your air pocket is. As far as the brakes locking up, perhaps they were over adjusted to somehow compensate for how the brake pedal was behaving. So, remove and bench bleed the master cylinder, reinstall, rebleed entire system and reset the brake adjustment. Good luck.
