Con: half the power of gasoline, so you need twice as big a tank to go the same distance. Also it is corrosive to alluminium

Pro: You can make it at home

little advantage for the street and probably
illegal in all states anyway. It's a racing fuel

Yes, it is used in many racing series (e.g. Indy 500) because if it catches fire, it can be put out with water, plus there is no smoke to cloud up the race track.

methanol is much safer than fuel, in an event of a fire, as it can be put out with water.

Methanol has a much higher octane rating than your average petroleum fuel.

Methanol does not deliver as much energy per mass, as fuel.... BUT

and this is why Methanol is so potent....

It brings it's own booz to the party.... or otherwisely stated, it brings along a couple of it's own O2 molecules. so you can fit a hell of a lot more methanol\ air mixture through the same hole in the same time... giving you a much bigger bang.

it's toxic to the touch, i.e. your skin absorbs it.... not good.

it collect water vapor from thin air, so after time it's useless.

it's cheaper than fuel....

methanol is safer because it is less volatile
than pump fuel and doesn't "explode"
