You need to vent it somewhere, normally those go back to the carbs intake side.

I'm running small filters on the tappet cover and another one on the block outlet.
From experience pressure builds up and want to push oil out.

I used to run both connected together and then off to my vent cannister

i have had an engine on the dyno this week and we played with this issue. we run one each into a catch caun with a 3mm breather hole, run it up then took the cap off (that was now 20mm) and picked up nearly 2hp atw. i think these little babies need to breath.

If you block it... the blowby would likely blow the dipstick out, and squirt hot oil on the engine bay. In a CA18 oil pumps straight onto exhaust manifold. Makes a great engine bay fire on the dyno. But this only if you block all breathers.

The A-series also have a breather on the back of the engine.. so it would be unlikely to cause much problem under normal driving. If you connected the two breathers together .. you would have dipstick action

Yes, the first effect is you lose HP. The second effect is the block will leak.

All you need to do is vent the rocker cover and vent the block, simplest method is to use no hoses, just let them vent to the air. But that is smelly. Best method is the stock one: vent one side to the air cleaner, the other to the PCV valve.

If you join them from one to the other or block both on an A series you will first blow the front main seal out, then the rear then:

1. loose power
2. blow out dip stick
3. damage pistons
4. damage valve seals
5. blow out valve cover gasket
6. blow oil pan off

and so it goes, at WOT even a good condition engine will easily generate a massive amount of block pressure if it can not vent, as an idea a normal just broken in 1.6L 8valve basic motor will pump out 15-20L of air a minute at WOT, add 100 000km and it can go as high as 100-120L a minute and still be within specification.

Youll find breather systems become a lot more critical when you rev higher, when I used to run my motor to 8000rpm I had no problem with both breathers T'ing and going into a basic catch tank, as soon as i started to go closer to 9000rpm it would start to leak at the front main seal, I had to split them and run them seperate into a catch tank with a large 25mm ID filter, presto, problem solved

You can link them both together, and into a (vented) catch can. If you block off all your breathers, you'll wind up pushing out your rear manin seal.
