Here is the scoop. I have my A15 build up sorted (parts on they way) but this will bea semi mild build (110 RWHPish) This is the Mrs fault. I was sourcing parts and she noted that it wasn't likely to make enough power and said
" if this motor is still going to be under powered just put a motor in it that will make it fast"
The class I run at vintage is under 2 liter NA; So which motor? The 150 WHP mark was picked because this is equal power to weight ratio of cars I've driven that have a nice balance of power / handling. My initial thought is L-series would work being that full race L16s are close so a milder tuned L18 or L20B would likely get this done. Also want like to stick with Nissan. Other thoughts were crazy stroker big bore A-series 1800cc motor.................thoughts, opinions .02 or just plain silly ideas welcome.

150rwhp L series would be awesome for a race car in my opinion,
i have 150rwhp in my ute (rotary) and like you i think its a great amount of power for a 1200 on the racetrack,
but the extra torque of an L series would be great, especially to pull it through the high rpm in 4th/5th gear

SR20de. makes 140hp stock, buy a short motor, add webers and some poncams and you'll see 165hp easy.

Engine horsepower.
I read that it was vintage too, but I think they will let it in seeing as it still uses a dizzy and if it was on carbs the only thing it would have over an l-series or "vintage" motor is that its twin cam.
S14 sr20de has VCT which packs a punch, but you eliminate that if you go for bigger cams.

yeah my L series had some balls, but apparently much over 100rwkw from an NA 2 litre L series without too much serious work is a bit of an effort
mine could have probably got 130-140rwhp with a larger cam and making use of some more rpm. but it was built for torque mainly no peak power had plenty of torque but needed some better diff gears, needed something more like 4.3s or something rather than the 3.7s i was running to make it really good

I'd use a k20a but a very expensive 2l motor put bike carbs on it if your not allowed injection but I'm not sure if the vtec would work without a computer so probably useless but if you can run a computer you'll be cheering

If you're looking at an L series motor there is a good book on modifying them published by HPBooks
"How to Modify Your NISSAN/DATSUN OHC Engine" by Frank Honsowetz ISBN 0-89586-353-7 Library of Congress Number 85-81747
Well worth a read

as a user, i would recommend L series motor. bulletproof like an A, and much more torquey. plus, dogleg box is not so rare compared to A. at least for my side of pond.
