I've just purchased a 1963 Triumph Spitfire and it has an A12 GX motor in it.
It's got the high oval port head and twin hitachi (SU copy) carbs with it.

The problem is that the motor was in pieces when I got it.

I need help finding these parts (willing to buy from anyone in OZ that will help) - or pls tell me where I can buy them or at least in the case of the bolts what the specs are:

The Hitachi carbs are missing:
+ one suction chamber,
+ one piston,
+ one screw in damper thingo,
+ one piston spring,
+ all linkages/choke mechanisms,
+ and both needles.

The block is missing:
+ sump screws,
+ timing cover bolts,
+ rocker cover nuts,
+ water pump bolts
+ the bolt that holds on the crank pulley wheel
+ the bolts that hold on the fan
+ and the nuts that hold the carbs to the manifold.

I know this is a lot of stuff but I'm really keen to get the motor running, and if you can help me out I'll make sure you get something for your efforts (even if it's just a pic of me smiling fiendishly at the finished mota).

There are pictures of my car at Triumph Owners

What city are you in? If you're local to Melb, I can probably help with a lot of stuff

I'm in Hobart.

Luckily a guy has offered to customise some geniune SU's and their linkages for me and mate them to the datsun manifold.

I've found the details of a few of the bolts.

It looks like the timing cover bolts are 6mm and the water pump is 8mm. I've found screws for the sump. The fan to water pump is 6mm.

Can anyone tell me what the crank end bolt should be?????

Now that I'm customising SU's can anyone tell me what needle profile to use on the A12 GX with twin SU's and what type of spring to use in the suction chamber????

Was that for specs on customising SU's or for parts to fix up the hitachi's?

Wilson Carbs probably are the best for SU parts and information.
I would be surprised if they were unable to recommend the right needles. They were able to give us needles to go in our twin 13/4 inch SU's that we were running on a 2 Litre L series

Remember---SU and Hitachi needles are not interchangeable and also that while there are heaps of SU needles available, the range of Hitachi needles is very limited

Yeah thanks, I've already got some SU's and customised them.

The bolts are all metric. Mostly 8mm. The front ones are 6mm and the sump are 6mm.

The 8mm bolts are 1.25pitch thread.

For anyone in my situation it's easy to measure the length of what you need but working out the thread pitch and diametre was the problem.

Anyway, I found that if you go buy a cheap tap and die set from supercheap you can work out what most of the threads are. They also work a treat for cleaning up the old block holes.

I still haven't worked out what the crank end bolt specs are but as soon as I do I will post it here for y'all.
