but yeah thought id just throw it out there just incase someone did have one or know where i could get one

clean mating surfaces. attach with vice grips. drill a 4 mm hole in one side, and fill it with the mig.

yeah thats plan b, as thats alot of drilling and welding and then grindin that id rather not do

if no equiptment hire places have them ive got mates that are welders that might know of somewhere that has one

failing that i know my old high school has one bolted to a bench in the metal works room. but id sooner have to break in and take it than actually be able to pry it from the metal work teachers hands

Funny you say that. Our metalwork class at school also had a spot welder.
Being a device that is pretty low maintenance, you'd think people would rent them out.

The old mig on a low setting is a good option.

Hopefully it will turn into one of those jobs that looks hard, yet just falls into place,
like building a turbo manifold.

haha it looks easy when im using a spot welder, just need to find one of the bastards

oh and i'll have built my turbo manifold before the roof is on most likely, so that would make the turbo manifold easier right

other reason i dont want to use a mig is that i'd need to clamp both sides of every weld to ensure that there arent any decent gaps between the roof and gutter. unlike a spot welder that does this for me

You will still have to clamp it a fair bit, if there are any gaps the spot welder will just pull the material in at the contact point and you will be left with a series of "puckers".

And then your arse will do the same.

It pays to spend some extra time making sure your mating surfaces are spot on.

I've been there before.

Have you thought about bonding it on?.

yeah need to clamp it a fair bit with spot welder, but its more the fact that if its not perfectly flat against the gutter the spot welder also acts as a clamp to hold it down

yeah the guy that did the panel beating on the roof was saying about the glue stuff they use to hold panels together, could be an idea if i cant get a spot welder

no cable tie, plan B cant really fail on me so no need for extra backup plans
