Another South African joins the club.
Welcome to the datsun neigbourhood.

First, tell us more about your car. Please don't tell us you stuck a Alfa motor in there.

Why did'nt you just go A12 or A14 with a turbo. There are some guys on this site that have gotten decent power with their A12, A14 or A15 turboed or supercharged engines.

Boost will depend on what internals your engine has and also what comp it is going to be running.
10:1 comp + turbo = big no no.

Difficult question as every motor is different but if the tune is good, i.e. correct fuel and timing, your engine will stand a better chance of coping with some boost. Fitting an intercooler will lower the intake temps and reduce the chance of detonation.

I understood that most OEM (factory) turbos in the past were about 5 lbs of boost -- and with engine modifications. I'd be worried about more, you could certainly try it but monitor exhaust gas temp, air/fuel ratio and especially listen for detonation.

I was just reading in the lastest Motor that the new Golf GT (not GTi) runs 2.5 bar of boost! Incredible.

Every 6 or 7psi roughly adds 1 to your compression ratio. Once you go over 11 or so it gets tricky not to detonate...so if your at a 10 CR is so then much over 7psi could be trouble.

Yes the new car engines are putting out incredible power, even the naturally aspirated ones. As much as I can figure, the biggest factor is variable valve timing, even in economy models.

My ride is a 1200 deluxe.I trade a mini body for a 1750 alfa motor and a 2.0 nissan diff,so I could not resist the temptation.I would not recommend this conversion to anyone.I am halfway there but had tons of problems alonge the way.But it`s a lot of fun.
