Wiring
The room lamp has one side of the lamp (RL wire) always hot from the L wire of the fuse box (Fuse 'C'). The switch has three positions:
* Off * Auto (center) * On
In the auto position, the light is grounded by the Door Switch (BR wire in A-pillar). Usually only the driver's side door has a switch. In the ON position, it is grounded through the ground wire in the headliner (or with standard switch, via the attaching screws).
Dash harness has the door switch/room lamp wiring
Black Ground Black/red Ground from door switch Red/blue Always Hot
- 12V is supplied by 'C' fuse in Fuse Box (C: Cigarette, Room, Radio)
- Ground wire out of Lamp may be a short wire that bolts to the roof metal
- Early truck lamps have no Ground wire (black wire) but ground through the lamp screws. This is for use without a door switch
- 1973 used a relay, but with the same wire colors. The 1973 door switch is a double-switch (with an extra wire)
7804- wiring with 2-wire room lamp (can use optional door switch)
-7804 truck with 1-wire room lamp (no option for door switch)
