The RX7 diff is about 5 inches wider hub to
hub so with the flares and some negitive
offset wheels it should fit just right- I may
needs to redrill or replace the axles as very
few companies make wheels for the
standart RX7 |

Heres the cage etc. Tried to keep it simple inside. For those in NZ, Manfeild lap time last weekend at the Hutt Car Club sprint - 1.20.6 which was better than I had planned even after all the hours of preparation. It weighs 1220 kg.
243 hp at the rear wheels on Andre Simons Dynopak (Speedtechnz.com) - 98 Pump gas. Revs to over 7000. Still has drums on the back. |

| The Volkswagen cooling system uses a purge tank. as such you have to add one to use the Golf radiator. There is no fill provisions on the radiator. The purge tank has a small line from the top of the radiator to let the air out of the system and a larger line that that goes into the lower radiator hose someware. I connected the purge tank outlet line into the heater hose that returns to the lower radiator hose. The Golf purge tank is a nice little round unit but uses a bracket that is welded into the Golf. I found that one of the Audi's, a 5000 IIRC has a purge tank that bolts on to a flat surface. The Audi tank is working for now but I plan on putting a Golf purge tank in when the battery is moved to the trunk. |

| If you are still using the stock hood latch, you will need to provide clearance for the cable pull assembly. It sticks out past the surface of the core support. I cut a rectangular slot to clear the cable hardware. |

When the opening in the core support was enlarged, the raised part of the core support was removed. A piece of 2x2 aluminum angle was used to provide a mounting place for the upper mounts. The upper mounts are a simple steel angle bracket that has a rubber gromet on one end. The bracket fits into a mating slot on the top tank of the radiator. The bracket is bolted through the aluminum angle stock.
The aluminum angle stock is bolted to the top of the remains of the core support.

First series of photos will be of the radiator swap I performed on my 1200. Stock cooling system did not have enough capacity when the car rolled off the assembly line and now 36 years later, it's almost useless...
Getting a 3 layer core installed in my tanks was quoted at over $250.00 and did not add the capacity I wanted.
From Halsey Automotive in Portland OR., I was able to purchase new in the box, a 1986 Golf radiator for $43.00. That's right, $43.00 for a new plastic and aluminum radiator! This is their regular price by the way.
After some poking around in the wrecking yards I found that the Golf's with AC had one lower mount for the AC condenser that was removable. The AC condenser and Radiator use the same mouting scheme. So, after a few minutes, I had a handfull of Golf radiator mounting hardware.
