Re: FIA HEAD WITH MOTEC INJECTION
I haven't seen one of these for a while. They are becoming very rare. These things have monster inlet ports that you can stick your whole first in (well almost). They don't do much for torque, but make a good bottom end rev very hard. Good for cicuit, but hopeless in a road car.
Do you have any good pics of the inlet ports to give the other guys an idea of the size of them??

Tell us about the inlet manifold Feral...
I've never seen one like it...
Do L series need extra cooling in the rear of the head when they're pulling big numbers?

L18-B110,
The heads going on my 310 sunny after I get some 1.75" sand bent pipes made up to suit as the FIA exhaust ports are different as well.

I just want to have a bit of fun and do some clubbies with it. It has Bilsteins all round with 4 spot FIA brakes and 300lb/inch springs on the front. I have an H190 240RS rear axle with a spool for race use but run an open H165 4.111 diff and drums on the street.

I have a L20B engine in my 610 coupe. Would this head help my L20 engine? Is it something hard to find or readilly available?
Looks strong.
Jaime.

Re: FIA HEAD WITH MOTEC INJECTION
Jaime,
These are very bloody rare these days.
I bought this one as a write off and it has cost me $2800 to repair so far plus injection $1900
I still have to have a set of sand bent exhaust extractors made for it.!!!!!!!!!

Looks good, but intimidating, pricewise, I will follow your progress, probably my best choice will be twin DCOE's and a regular L20 cyl head porting job+cam.
still interested in the end result, looks like an awesome cyl head.
Jaime.

Re: FIA HEAD WITH MOTEC INJECTION
The engine I have in my daily driver KB310 has a D ported inlet A87 head with 44mm inlet and 37mm exhausts both in 214N stainless. This head flows 206 hp, the FIA flows 222 hp.

When used with carbs, the FIA ports are too large for low low speed operation. Slow gas velocity allows insufficiently atomised fuel to drop out. This with the lack of chamber swirl causes stumbling and bad throttle response at low rpm. This is where the bad road reputation comes from. With injection these problems disappear due to better atomisation.

Port angles on inlets allow for much better cylinder filling at high rpm. The exhaust ports are very good as well.

These heads in showroom stock condition flow as well as the best modifed A87 heads. When an FIA is modified it is awesome.

But I am biased

Re: FIA HEAD WITH MOTEC INJECTION
The FIA heads were individually cast and can often easily be recognised by the brush marks that were made on the casting cores. The head uses an external runner to bring coolant flow past the exhaust valve guides to help get rid of heat.
The manifold only fits the FIA head.
