Re: ca18det Nope Thats a S13 SR20DET with a greddy plenum (not quad throttles) and a standard (S14) hi mounted turbo on a custom manifold probably to clear the steering box as this is in a US 510 (LHD)

Re: ca18det I would kill someone if they messed with my Datsun, I don't even let anyone else drive it but my dad! I don't have to worry about theft here in Japan, but when I get back to the States, if I'm not living on a military base, my house will have a 2+ car garage with a 1200 inside under lock and key 24/7! Yeah it looks like this dudes brake fluid is gonna heat up quick! Header wrap is a must in 1200's, my car stops awesome when I first start it up, but gets spongy once it warms up.
Does anyone know if the stock SR20DET exh. manifold/turbo will clear everything in a LHD (US) 1200???

Yes I do know, and the answer is no. Don't you remember all the headaches that Datsun.com dude ran into, finally scratching the whole project?

Re: ca18det Yeah I remember reading about his project long ago, but it was deleted before I ever thought about doing the SR20DET. I thought he was just doing it to get more power/better flow. The reason he sold it though was he renewed his interest in his already built VG30DE 510, undertaking the project of putting the twin turbo Z engine in it which he found out upon startup the engine was no good (should've stuck with the SR20DET 1200!!!!!). Well I'll find out sometime anyway. OKBYE

Re: ca18det Quote: The reason he sold it though was he renewed his interest in his already built VG30DE 510, Yeah, that was his excuse, but the real reason was he got in over his head. I mean comeon, you don't invest thousands and tons of hype to suddenly drop a project like that. Believe me. I'd love to see it done on a LHD car, but justt don't give up midterm like he did.

Re: ca18det Im 99.9% sure the engine is an SR20 not a CA18. the different rocker cover and the lack of of a crank angle sensor run off the exhaust cam out the front gives it away.

Re: ca18det That engine bay is owned by a fella called Mario from SoCal UFO. I met him in 1999. He's an absolute NUT!! But also a really nice bloke.
Definitely an SR20 DET, if you look carefully to the right. The throttle body fits on the end of the plenum...no quad throttle bodies, therefore not GTiR. The plenum looks a bit strange, it's a Trust Item, and not real cheap!
His car was stolen from out the front of his workshop in LA back in August, I don't know if it was returned.

Re: ca18det Quote: That engine bay is owned by a fella called Mario from SoCal UFO. I met him in 1999. He's an absolute NUT!! But also a really nice bloke. You mean Marcos, not Mario. Marcos owned a side business importing JDM engines, note how clean the motor is, the pick of the litter. But Mario had a bluish 510 with sr20det and plenty of anodized bits. (His car was stolen in front of his shop and completely stripped, but he recovered the shell and bought a few of the stolen parts back.) Marcos bought a maroon s13 and sold his green 510 to a relative. I don't know the relative's naame, but I don't think it is Juneor Gallindo, who owns this turquoise 510 with and s14 motor.
