Nah dont know Bill but what a laugh to hear your budget beast beat open wheelers that have so much work done to them by "experts like him"

If you have probs with gearbox removal then I will have more than that on my dwarf.

Got some old dellortos from a 2ltr alfa as a replacement for my webers which were stolen while transplanting manifolds.
Anyone know a good reference for them on the net? theyre going on a fairly stock a14 with electric dizzy, extractors and lightened flywheel.
Not going mikunis cause the guy who tuned some for me a while ago has gone overseas and no one else does motorbike carbs on a car dyno.
I know Im wasting my time considering Ill be swapping the engine to something twice as powerful thanks to Harry and others like gary hamilton, but ill be a few bue moons before that happens so I will do what I can to the a14 until then.

Bill Sherwood weighed a t series celica split case alloy box at 25kgs dry if that helps.

For something different Atkings rotary whos been tuning rotaries since 1972 in the states, rates the bare 13b at 104kgs without waterpump, starter, manifolds, flywheel, clutch etc.
so maybe thats why Gary hamiltons 1000 is so fast round those curves, especially with the Peri-feral 330hp he claims.

I just got a downdraught 51mm IDA weber and a 45 sidedraft weber to suit a 13b and 10a respectively.
A full extend port (torquier from low rpm) 13b can produce 230hp with the 51 ida and tuned extractors. As where a 10a (to stay in the 2ltr and under class) with the sidedraft will only make 145hp unless I go for a 210hp Peripheral port. As for the amount of work required to fit the 13b as opposed an L18 thats a different challenge.

Thanks for your hard work, this will give us a better measure for what we need to consider.

Did you mod your tunnel for the box to fit or did you have an auto tunnel that made the difference in clearances??

Matt, you underestimate how weak an a15 crank is. An a15 of mine had a similar result from taking it to 8000 often whici pissed me off since a crapp pinto 2ltr often saaw that and lasted for years. The best to do is to have it tutrified and straightened by someone who knows what they are doing. Even so there a many an mx5 owner who found the mx5 1600 head a disadvantage for further development so to see 8000 to make power from that head wont be an issue and your a15 crank will endure.

AFRacer a closed chamber head would make much better hp and torque for those dished suckers it is a much more efficient use of the kidney chamber as it was designed to be that way to take full advantage of its design principles for inlet and exhaust on the same side. In theory open chamber heads are better for the hemi type arrangement with convex pistons and crossflow. You could be gaining more hp than the 5% on stats because an open kidney chamber head supposedly has more of a disadvantage with the same compression than a hemi opened head as it upsets the swirl pattern it was designed for but used by nissan for low grade fuel in certain countries. As for Optimaxproblems... Dont use it unless you warm up your car to full operating temp, otherwise a black residue coating will cover your plugs and ruin your points or timing. Synergy is best and havent heard anything bad yet about it and most top racers swear by it. Stay away from lead free super its got something in it that is like acid to your oldschool engine which makes sense since big brother wants you to buy new cars.
Hope that helps.

Anyone know where I can get pictures of a rotary in a datsun 1200 with clear shots of the mounts. The pics on the archives are not clear enough. I need to know positioning of the custom front engine crossmember or mounts and engine setback. Ive got an article of a stock turbo 13b s4 in a 120y (with again no clear mounting shots) that does 11.5 seconds on 175 70 13s. You should see how rusty this thing is and it leaves slick tyred cars for dead.
It apparantely has a 121 (rx5) gearbox that fits right into the original hole and mounts right up to the orig crossmember holes.
Being looking at a 10a pp engine to keep stay in the 2ltr and under class but will just focus on sprints if I can go 13b.

Dont worry you are lucky to have the auto tunnel so most boxes you choose will fit.
You should try some twin sus with that compression and electronic ignition off the bluebird.

My high kms diff has the same whine as the low km one it must be that they were never really adjusted properly, theyre a weak design or they ran low oil at some stage on the high kms one and never well factory adjusted on the low kms one. Now if anyone understands what I wrote you might start whining too. However I recommend a glass on wine when youre on this site or even something stronger to help with the addiction.
