Hi Guys
Check the above link about how a engine must be run in according to this website.
It is very interesting and I think will bring out alot of comment from you guys.

According to the guys on our local South African Volkswagen club website, they all do this to their cars and never had problems.
Obviously you must do it when the engine is at normal operating temperature.

Your link isn't quite right.

Very interesting reading though. I guess it's all possible. I am now worried about my pistons and how they broke in after the rebuild. I had ignition problems and all sorts of issues in my first 20 minutes of runtime.

We'll find out in the long term I guess.

Maybe some high boost will help the rings wear into the bores properly

I can agree with what he says, but his article reads almost like one of these infomercials...

Basically what it boils down to when running your engine in, is that you have to put it under load as often as possible, but not to let it labor.

You thus drive the car in 4th, but not 5th, and decelerate to about 60k's and stomp on the accelerator to make it accelerate to 120k's, then let go again to let it decelerate to 60k's again. Repeat this procedure about 20 times and the rings will be set as they will ever be.

My dad and I have also always done this, and have never had any problems with burning oil, smoke or low compression ratio.

I started my new blown motor up in the shed just long enough to check the timing. Then we towed it out to the wops, and I wound it out to 120mph right from the word go.

Gotta say I couldn't agree more with what he says.

Race motors get 15 - 20 mins at about 2,000rpm to run in the cam and lifters, then its onto the dyno for about 15 mins of full throttle - 3/4 rpm runs.
After that it is considered run-in and ready to race.

Meh.BS.

Yeah I'm sure the first thing they do to F1 engines when they fire them up is rev them to 19k.

Your engine run well and for a long time is because of how it was built not how you break it in.

I pretty much agree with whats said on that web sight, its pretty much how I run mine in... 13 motors built, not one let go.

lol these things about how to run in motors comes up all the time...

there seems to be 2 ways, the way where the motor fails within 3000 miles and the other kind.

most of the failures are obviously engine building...
