Im going quad bike carb on a ca18de and just wondering if I can run the factory CAS with a factory control unit or something? If so which part do I need from the wreckers?

Just found this.... Quote: quoted from tsillay Hey guys My CA16 used 45 DCOE's because I had em lying around, and I wanted to keep the costs down. I used a modified CA18de brain to do the spark curve, I simply mapped RPM to advance and used 2 coils in wasted spark config, once again to keep the costs down! No AFM, no Oxy sensor.. I love Erols idea of using a dizzy, this will give you a really, really good engine for nix.. also Quote: My 1600 made 107kw at the wheels, it did have the benefit of a very nice head and some largish cams... Still used the stock pistons (which are a pop-top) and planed the head to get the compression right up. I forget what a CA16 makes standard, but the addition of webers, exhaust and a little compression should up that figure by 10% There's a thread somewhere here which lists all the mods I did... Quote: CSL Cams in Palmerston North welded me up a pair of cams for the CA16 many years back.. Had to throw out the hydraulic lifters, and convert to shims (Feral says to use RB26DETT ones) Wish I'd known this, took an age to turnup , harden and grind some... Used Crane valve springs, and bored the spring seats down into the head to get the lift I needed. Made good HP, and it only ran on 45 DCOE's

The whole theory of adapting carbs to cut the cost of injection is just stupid to me. What does the ca injection cost to set up once you have the engine? You'd usually get the manifold with the engine so all you have to do is modify the loom and set up a fuel system. How would that ever be more expensive than getting/making a manifold for carbs then modifying everything to make the engine work with the carbs
putting carbies on a ca to cut costs as the guy you quoted has done seems like a very poorly thought out plan. Or a clear over estimation of the costs involved in making injection work

Yea piggy your right ,why not throttle bodies ,cheap and you dont need to change stuff all on the harness ,and it would be easy to tune too
Why waste money when the stock ca18de harness has everything you need

Exactly, if you are going to do it, do it properly and run quad throttle injection. Then watch as all the people with a dead stock det fly past you

I have my reasons if you are willing to help Id be grateful. I was going ca16det for engineering max power possible in a 1000 but now itll be a club car/cruiser. The reality is CA18s are fugly more so with stock ancillaries. Ive sourced fwd covers w/ no breather boxes and will route breathers onto the rear inlet sides, machine the rockers down to smooth curved edges after welding. I have good looking oldkool quad 41mm bike carbs that will sit on modded inlet and good looking headers. Ill be chasing 100-110kw atw with more comp, re-ground welded tri flow type cams, cleaning / match porting & maybe a few combusition chamber mods. I was going Megajolt ig. only kit but this original component reworking sounds to good to ignore!
Id like to see TSILLAYs pics of his ca16de setup but he doesnt get on here and love to know the info on how to mod the brain.
So can anyone help with some answers or help to my original query?

ca18de head with a custom built distributor (gotta use the input shaft from the ca cam sensor adapted to a custom dizzy) I have also read about ppl using a sigma dizzy that spins the other way.. for some this is a cheap solution, if they have the parts lying around, and can do most/all the work them selves and some ppl (like me) like a challenge and doing things that aren't easy.. here is my post asking about it a few months back when i wanted to do the same thing (and i may still do it :P) http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/v ... id=352808#forumpost352808i ater read that in this photo, the guy unplugged the injectors and ran the car with the webbers an no AFM, but he used something to eliminate the AFM and this was in japan, and the part was not mentioned in the thread.
