The best way is to buy a set of new lower springs. This is not the cheapest way, .. or the quickest way, but it is the best way.

Since you need to remove the struts to do it, you might as well slip in a new pair of shock absorbers while you're at it & kill two birds with one stone.

I will echo the proper springs comment. It is the best way. IF money is the big issue then you can use 240Z springs and cut out one coil then use lowering blocks in the rear. This works ok and will get the look you want but if it is handling your after I'd suggest sway bars first.

How do you keep lowered springs in position when heavy cornering will let the lowered spring flop around ?
Cheers

when your cornering hard enough to get the inside wheel off the ground, thats when you start worrying about the spring flopping around

Use tie wire to hold them in, drill some small holes in the spring perch.

I have recently learned quite a bit on this subject

There are basically two sorts of springs:
1. Linear rate springs -> Same pounds per inch through duration of travel
2. Progressive rate springs -> soft for first few inches and linear for the rest.

Progressive springs are similar to using a normal linear spring, where a helper (or tender) spring, as is used in coilover setups. The progressive rate spring is the equivalent of a linear rate and helper spring.

Progressive springs are wound with a certain coils per inch for most of the travel, and on one end, the coil maker puts more coils per inch. This softens part of the spring. The number of coils needs to be calculated so that the spring 'sags' to the correct ride height under it's stationary corner weight.

I would always recommend talking to a coil spring manufacturer near you, to ensure the car will be safe to drive.

Here's an interesting link:
