HI Guys...........
I thought it was about time I joined up....
Yep I was the one that rolled, no I am not on the NDSOC committee (for the record I was president 2001-2004 and have been on the c'tee previously to that for about 6 years)- I was just part of the Nationals c'tee and no I haven't rolled at the island before...... yes I have crashed coming onto the front straight and written one off (the car was a 510 and I'm talking 2 door here kids)- it used to do comfortable 1:50's - all with carbies.... In over 70 sprints I have only hit twice (once before the Nationals!) so it must be something about that place......
Anyhow, reading stuff like this gives us great feedback..
The bbq - i went out and bought more food - the locals in the dining room clearly liked our food more than what was on the menu! Plus, we didn't expect people to be going back for 5th's - 2nd's sure, but not 5th's... so apologies to those who did miss out (me inlcuded) but it was interesting to see the tables on the bottom levels with a half a dozen plates with enough food on them (untouched) to feed a small army left on the tables when they left...... Nope it wasn't perfect but we tried to do our best..... we didn't want to tell the first session to move it out when it was clear everyone was happy sitting around having a beer and shooting the breeze...
The sprint day was another story - firstly to those who liked the parade lap - seriously take the next step if that's your thing and get out on the track. The day ran perfectly (except for me) and I have to say, loved it when there was a whole group of 1600's (although my preference is carby's not turbo's) - I'm definitely an old school girl.... my undying passion is roadsters, so to see Al's 2000 do a 2:07 (he got pinged for noise - it's all induction!!!) was great....
The concourse looked great with all the cars lined up, and it was interesting there were more older cars than newer....
I noticed a few people say how come there weren't more 1200's, fairlady's etc... simply because they didn't enter. I have a fairlady - a '66 1600 that is in my shed not finshed due to being let down by the panel beater, and had planned on taking the daily driver as well, but ended up only taking the 1 car.
If you felt any of the organisers were less than friendly, then I do truly apologise - it wan't our intention but to get 143 cars (ohh by the way Goulburn had 220-odd in 2005)into that space in the limited time meant we were under the pump for an hour or two there........ if were shirty then I am sorry -
Thanks to everyone who came up and asked if I was okay and did I need any help. For the record, I came out of MG a little harder than normal and was sideways, and as the car kept sliding towards the track it hit the track itself which is a few inches higher than the dirt, and she tripped. The body is stoofed (I had planned on a new body in the off season initially due to the rust) but everything else seems to be okay - it started up and was driven onto the trailer! It was at the concourse for a laugh and good thing it was - I'm off to check out a shell tonight - as a result of the bloke coming up to me when he saw the car, so fingers crossed it'll only be 4-6 weeks before my next track day - at winton this time.
If you felt like a shag on a rock then I don't know what to say - except for how about walking up to others and saying hi? I didn't know the majority of you yet that didn't stop me....... The Zed guys felt a little the same becuase there were so many "others" there - you have to be willing to go up to people and shoot the breeze.
I'll have the full results posted on the ndsoc website before too long, but in a nutshell wanted to thank you all for coming - the idea was to continue from Shepp in 2004 when we made it the Nissan Datsun Nationals and not the Zed nationals (which is where all this started)....... the best way to keep that going is to come to the QLD ones in 2009. It will be at Morgan Park and based in Warwick.
Remember these Nationals are done by VOLUNTEERS so cut us a little slack - we did this in under 6 mths.........
In 2009 I'm planning on taking the racecar and the fairlady, and maybe I'll have something else by then too...... now I just have to seriously start sweet talking a car carrier.......
Cheers,
Karyn
