Unfortunately we couldn't drive it. The DOT wants a crash test, and the EPA wants emissions system certified. It's like $25,000 USD to certify a specific model. The good news is that vehicles over 25 years old can get exemption papers for both requirements.

Hmmmm how about a brand new Bakkie with "old plates , papers and chassis numbers. The Customs guys would be impressed with the restoration job, "it looks brand new!"

Yeah!! You wimpo

Find an old Bakkie in South Africa, do a Numbers job on it in South Africa.

Then Export it!! That'll work! Maybe I can start up a Datto Holiday Camp for Bakkie Rebirthing! I'd love to have a new Bakkie with A/C and the works!

Awesome!!

Chris

The ute's are standard 1400 now with a 5 speed gearbox. You get the standard model and the 1400 champ. The champ ute/bakkie has the rev counter, bucket seats spots etc. And yes they're still in production. A brand new 2003 Champ will set you back +\- R70 000 and second hand utes that is still in good condition about R30 000, that is about $ in Aus 14000 for a new one and about $ 6000 for a 1996 model.
Here's a link if you want to have a look at second hand ute's http://www.cars4sale.co.za do a basic search on Nissan in any region of Sout Africa
