its also worth it in the wet when instead of the engine just reving freely you can actually feel that you have no traction

Clear something up guys, are we talking about the race track or are we talking about lifting inside rear wheels in the suburbs?I'm not having a shot at PIGDOG because i know there are people born with natural talent with regard to car control, but i feel most people have to develop these skills, but i do have to agree the pose value at the servo in front of all the woodys in their dunny doores is fun.Go a slippery if you can afford it

i have been driving around for the past 8 months with a welded diff. yes it has its ups and downs. like how many times have i had to do a 3 point turn in the last 8 months? never.
in the rain it can get abit scary sometimes but you have to know how much right foot to use. on the weekends its pretty fun but i was goin through a set of tyres every week. that is prob one bad thing also getting done by the cops which i havent been.... yet

I wouldn't go back to one. Since I couldn't blow the sidegears, I wore through the hardening on the Crownwheel and pinion. (Twice)
The only time I'd want a locker again would be at the dragstrip.
(Because my arms aren't longer than my legs)

I have a love affair for lockers, ive had one in nearly every street car ive had. I agree with pigdog about the dangers of the open wheeler. But one has to exersize some self control to retain licence and panels, also lockers are a great excuse for when people crash there cars, it was the lockers fault, it just stepped out.......

ive only lost it once in my car....possibally the only corner in geelong that turns to ice when wet
first time driving in town, happened to be raining, looped round rather fast and ended up facing the wrong way...i dont actually blame the locker, bald tyres and the rain is my excuse

only thing i regret was that i had mates in the car and 2 other mates sitting at the lights that i ended up facing

was all good fun though, nothing like clutching it in 3rd in the wet with a locker

Well I think we've demonstrated the 2 camps here;

Throw me in the save money for LSD for all the reason listed. LSD is much better but well they can be exspensive.

Lockers are cheap and do the trick you just have to modify how you drive the thing.........read plug your brain in or the tried and true method of slow down.

So if your a cheap arse (I am) then weld em up and see if it's worth it for you (get an extra diff)...........if don't like it you can always take it back out.

Sorry kiddies feel free to throw rocks at me for this next comment................Having raced with open diff , LSD , locker in both wet and dry..........it aint the rear end that's dangerous it's the tosser just behind the steering wheel that cuase most offs. My fav stutdent at the track during his first ever day............."I keep coming real close to spining in 4 what should I do?"
To which I always reply "slow down"

Tom

Smartest thing I have read here for a while.

I remember the observation, "Young drivers are the most skilled, & the most killed" It might pay to have a think why.
