Ok Guys,

Befor you tell me, I've already had a look through the search.

I'd like to gather some info on what works in a boosted A series, upto 250rwhp

1. What components work in the bottom end:
-What Pistons?
-What Rods?
-What crank?
-Cam specs?

2. What components work in the top end:
-How big to flow head?
-Valve size?
-Valve Springs?
-What push rods?

3. Bolt ons:
-Turbo
-EFI
-Carby
-Intercooler

Just looking to put a thread together for the guys that are looking for a bit higher boost than 10-12psi, that is reliable for every day.

All info, coments welcome.

Kym

Good idea. It would make things simpler if there was a part number for forged pistons from a piston manufacturer that has made them for the a-series.

what gearbox will you use behind a 250rwhp A-series??

I think to get 250rwhp you'll be spending more than it would cost to put a 250hp ca18 in there...

Just thought I'd put to gether a tread for all that didn't want to go down the CA, SR path.
(not saying that I'm not, we all know how easy it is and how to get 250rw out of a CA. But there isn't much info for the A series)

What gearbox will work? That's what the tread is for, info.

-How hard is it to adapt a celica/supra 5spd?
-Would any A series box handle 250rw?
-Would a L series box fit?

There will be someone that has the answers!

no Aseries, Lseries or celica box will handle 250rwhp.

If someone is rich enough to say "I want to waste masses of money just so I can say I'm different" then they probably dont need to know this stuff they'll drop it off at a workshop and pick it up when its done.

In my opinion, that is the only answer. I'm more than happy to be proven wrong, however.

Well what are the power limits?

A Celica box will handle 250rw! I've seen it in a Gemmi that runs 11.6 @ 117mph all day. It used to run a std 4spd Gemmi box. (obiously its not going to last smashing through the cogs)
Does anyone have an idea on the strength of the Gemmi box compared to a L or A series box?

There must be more info around, from what ppl that have actually done some of this stuff. Someone must know the limits!
What is going to be an economic power figure for the a15(150-200rwhp)? Before going totally overboard. (just rebuild with some lo-comp forgies, shot peened rods, head port, larger valves ect).

celica boxes arent really the strongest things in the world, maybe strong enough for an NA A series, but i think after you get to the 200hp mark the celica box is no longer a good idea

supra box on the other hand can take a fair bit more power

To be honest with you, I think you are going to get little responce here because not many have tried it.
I also don't think that there are aftermarket conrods made for the A series that are strong enough to handle high boost. Like for example for the CA there are aftermarket parts to make it reliable with higher boost. The A series engine was build when turbo'ing engines was still in the beginning phase of turbo'ed engines.

I'm not really that worried cos I'll be going down th CA or SR path later. I just coulndn't find any info in the search! so I thought I'd start a thread to suck a little info out of every one!
Obviously not much info to suck, I'll leave it at that.
Any info is still encouraged.
There still isn't much info on what power ppl are seeing failures at!

I think that is why most people build turbo A series engines with stock internals.
Aftermarket parts to turbo it with are not plentyfull.
Parts are expensive to do it with custom aftermarket parts and you can then just aswell go the CA route for the same amount of money.
