just wondering what lightened flywheels poeple are using on their a series (its for the a12 turbo)

Currently, on the slightly warmed up A12 stocker I'm using a sunny flywheel lightned to to the Datsun Comp guideline. It's about 6.25Kg. Sitting on the shelf is a B-Projects 2.7Kg chromemolly flywheel purchased for the big bore A15 project. The 2.7Kg flywheel will most likely find it's way onto the stocker well before the A15 is done...

the a12 flywheel is lighter from factory anyway so there isnt much point in going to the a14/15 ones. Just get the standard a12 one lightened properly by a few kgs. If you go to light like below 4 kg id imagine you'd get annoyed with it after a while.

The flywheel from the A10 [1000] is the lightest stock flywheel to start with, but was drilled for a smaller diameter clutch.

Mine was lightened & re-drilled for the 1200 & later clutch. Comes in at 12 to 13 lbs & was just fine for street use. [about 5.5 to 6 kg]

what is the intended use for the engine. If it's for the street or drag racing, use the stock weight A12. If it's for circuit racing, lighten it & rebalance it a couple of kgs. For anything involving a standing start, the heavier the flywheel, the better the starting start. Flywheels store energy that is especially useful in moving a car away from rest.(traffic lights or christmas tree). A friends Hillclimb car uses the heaviest flywheel he could find & it's a supercharged engine.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

I've heard L series flywheels are stupidly heavy. You rekon the same principle should be applied to a L18 for instance? intended use is hillclimb and club level sprints

You have to think about what you are going to do with the engine. Street car, strip car or track car. The flywheel basically supplies counterweight force to the end of your crankshaft giving you your torque. Pre boost torque is vital for a small capacity street vehicle. Track cars that don't see any hills will not be as affected by a lighter flywheel than a hill climb car. A serious turbo car doing quarter mile work or drift work will love the light chromemoly job but if you put 200kg in the back of your ute and tried to get up a steep driveway you will have trouble.
