WA Liscence/Transport have Said NO 1200 Coupe with CA18DET can be road registered as to the power to weight ratio.

This is calculated by the weight times 2.5

So what is the weight of a standard 1200 Coupe??? The workshop manual states 695kg

Also how many cc is the CA18DET in stock form.

Also any people on the east coast with a CA18 Coupe I would be interesting in knowing how you guys went? Who engineered it etc. As my engineer would like to talk to your engineer etc

Why would they measure it on power to weight? You could just detune it and get it passed and then run more boost into it after. I think they might do it on capacity to weight?

It all depends on what rules WA Liscence/Transport uses. If they are under the National Code of Practice (NCOP) then you will be able to get it engineered as that is the set of rules that are used in the ACT.

Under the NCOP they determine the tare weight from the heaviest model in the range which is the wagon at 720kg.

If I am correct not all of Aust is under these rules yet so you may have a different set of guidelines over in WA

These are the specs as advertised for the CA18det...

DOHC 4cyl. 16valve 1.8L turbo
Displcement - 1809cc
Horsepower - 175hp @ 6400rpm
Torque - 166lbs/ft @ 4000rpm
Bore - 83mm
Stroke - 83.6mm
Compression - 8.5:1
Block - iron
Head - Aluminum

Not quite clear on the power to weight? They say is calculated by weight x 2.5...

695 x 2.5 = 1735.5
or in the case of the wagon weight
720 x 2.5 = 1800 I agree with Lachie - I assume this is cc's?
Cos If It's horsepower your laughing! (and if It's Kw's HOLD ON)!
If what they mean IS cc's. It falls over a mere 9cc's
If they knock it back for that... They are some pretty hard nose f*#%ers.

It is measured by weight to displacement

Told them the coupe weighed 695 kg which is to light. Hovever the coupe delux or sedan weight (sedan 720kgs, coupe deluxe 729kgs) maybe a option.

Yes WA use the NCOP but they are looking at the coupe weight, so maybe I could argue that in other states they use the weight from the heaviest model in the range.

WA is suposed to be the same as the east coast - BUT its aint yet.

To update - WA use NCOP and it states that it is taken from the heaviest sedan weight.

Had a read of the document again.

And like mentioned earlier in this post the CA is over the maximun cc for a 720 kg 1200 sedan by 9 cc.

Well boys a Technical Section - The part of liscencing responsible for modifed cars in WA are not happy with this, because the CA engine exceeds the maximun cc for a turbo engine by 9 cc.

The engineer and myself cant believe it. I am now applying to Technical Section on compasionate grounds because they gave approval for this car under the old guidelines.

They are following the guidelines to the letter as a few people have built insane vehicles, whilst complying with the guidelines.

Did WA transport tell you it was 720kgs?

I know NSW RTA have a little book with these weights. They don't match up with anyone elses.

I was told OooOOooo it's very close but under, when I got mine registered.

Dont forget that's running no boost.
Once you add forced induction, it essencially increases the displacement, ie; 15psi would make it 3618cc (1809 x 2).
