DD, not to teach anyone how to suck eggs, but a really good fix for those manifold rubbers is 'WURTH' brand windscreen sealant, applied in a thin layer inside and out, it sets flexible and is totally impervious to fuel. I've used this many times and it has never failed. It also looks nice and gloss black.

On a side note, it sets flexible enough to repair moving, flexing parts like the diaphragms in mikuni slide type carburetors and the like. Cheaper then buying new parts and lasts for years.

The ute looks good and should make a nice addition to the 'stable'

Thanks for the tips. I put some RTV silicone on the outside as a "road fix" (bush fix) but it didn't seem to help. Time to just unbolt it and see what's up.

angelo, yes I had both Air Conditioners rolled down, and the center air control on high (just like a 1200 sedan) . Once I got over the Grapevine mountain pass heading out of LA (even at 6am, there were already three cars overheated on the Grapevine. The little Datsun passed 'em like they were standing still which come to think of it, they were ...) ...

In the central valley, it was so hot it was almost cooler to roll the windows back up. it was so hot when I stuck my arm out the window it felt like a blast furnace. When I got to Sacramento for the next three hours or so it was around 100% humidity occassionally raindrops fell on the windshield but it never actually rained. Temp was only 97 degrees... but with the humidity I was chugging bottled water all day. The water eventually got up to about 90 degrees hot, but I kept drinking it.

taking those stickers off pretty quick, you'd hate to have the paint fade around them
thanks, I hadn't thought about fading paint, so I definitely will have to get those stickers removed. Any suggestions on how to do it? Heat gun, or some kind of solvent?

hey DD great to see you got a ute...wit till you get a coupe!!
The best way to get rid of stickers on duco is by going to your local panelbeater supply shop and ask for a caramelising disc. You put this on a drill and its like a rubber disc. You then use low rpm on your drill to rub off the stickers works very well and doesnt harm your paint and takes it off very quickly.
they call it a caramelising disc cause thats the smell you get when its rubs off the sticker...smells like caramel....mmmmmm....caramel.....

I'm not crazy about the red centers, but the wheels are nice. The tires are great.

Oh no, you have burst my bubble. But I think so too. And you haven't even seen the honduh muffler, but you've seen it on dozens of other Japan 1200s.

If I paint the wheel centers black and remove the stickers, it should look more low key...
Or color match the wheel centers blue?

Colour match for sure. It is seriously one sexy ute, you're a real lucky bastard to find something like that up your way.
