JE are from USA, it cost about $1600 to my door from memory. Be aware that the piston quote is usually only the start of the costs. UPS(US shipping)is bloody expensive and then when they land in Aus. you have to pay duties and GST.

You will have to be very meticulous with the tuning. If you want reliability i suggest you buy an M800 with knock control and individual cyl exhaust temp fuel trim compensations.

You will also have to run alot more than 20 to 25 Psi to get 180kw, closer to 35. You are then looking at running the top Martini fuels or equivelent, at $7+/lts.

Im not saying it isnt possible to get those figures but reliably i dont think so. Be prepared for failures/breakages just getting to 180kw once let alone reliably.

im hoping for 180rwkw
i will probably be only getting 100-150 rwkws but doesnt matter it will but one wicked fast car either way
it is going too be street driven too
i dunno i spose ill just see what she makes on the final day no matter what ill still be happy 100-150 rwkws in a sub 700kg car will be insane especially on the street!

You could definately get the nice 100-150kw street engine you are searching for but you might want to ditch the gt30 idea. i'd rather a responsive 120kw than a laggy lightswitch 180kw, which i think is what a big t3 will do on a 1.4l. The h165 will only last if you have no traction, if you run sticky tyres its life won't be long.

try to keep i simple but effective, not sure you need roller rockers - even the wads invested in the forged pistons and rods might be avoided depending on your goals.

in the end, 180kw from an a series in never going to be a nice to drive on the street kind of thing, dont get caught up with power figures it'll be how it drives that'll determine weather or not you enjoy it. good luck!

Some sound advice. Go no larger than gt28rs, aim for as large capacity
as you can, eg stroking the 82mm to 86mm crank use locally made forged
pistons from pistons auto (much cheaper and reknown quality), use good
motorbike rods with 37mm big ends to allow offset grinding to get the
big stroke, 77mm pistons no larger. Oil cooler and good radiator.
The rest is all tuning and good injectors. Log style manifold will suffice.
Roller rockers are a waste of money unless NA high rpm.
Low rod stroke ratio will allow better torque and charge velocity for boost.

Hi!

I just came accros this thread. I noticed someone saying 180rwkw is optimistic.

I home built my A14 carb turbo (using standard hitachi carb) and managing 107rwkw at 0.9bar with no intercooler and using a T3/T4 Garret (Airesearch) turbo with stage 3 turbine 0.48 exhaust housing and AR.60 compressor running a 57trim comp wheel.. best of al it is a Stock motor, I only recently fitted Langley SSS turbo pistons to lower the comp slightly, other than that it is STOCK top and Stock bottom..

The entire built took me 2 days.. here are some pics shortly after the initial install.

180kw is a bit optimistic, but not unrealistic, however a t3 won't get you there, I run a t3 normally i run it at about 6psi for everyday (about 80kw) i have run it and had it tuned up at 15psi (105kw)and at 20psi (124kw) full boost is achieved at 3800 odd rpm, but the t3 wont last 5 mins really any higher, there just not designed for it.

I have progresive decompression of 8.4 - 8.2:1 to compensate for the front cylinders running slightly hotter, and reduce the risk of detonation. multi coil ignition, arp studs external water pump to reduce load...etc.... and its intercooled. and it would not be worth the extra $ to chase more power, when an engine upgrade can be done with little fuss and cheap 5 speeds:)

That being said, i wouldnt mine the motor your building as a spare;)
