i think after u leave the car for a few days, maybe check that the fuel is still in the bowl of the carbie, make sure it still has fuel otherwise will have to re-pump and fill the bowl before it will start

When last was it serviced? Make sure the timing is correct and that the battery has enough juice to crank it.

Check your Datsun owner's manual.
Typically you need not to 'key' it several times, but instead, pump the accelerator pedal several times and key once. Maybe one pump for warm days, and four pumps for cold days (near 0 degrees).
After the car sits for several days, BEFORE you crank the engine, check the fuel bowl site-glass. Perhaps you'll find the fuel bowl is empty. In this case you need to crank the engine for a while to pump fuel to the engine before it will start. You can fix this by fixing the leak.
Another possibility is that your auto-choke is not working right, it should close 100% on the first pump. That can be adjusted very simply.

check your plugs, replace them with NGK BP6ES (hot) A series like new plugs.. they like fresh plugs frequently as when they carbon track in the electrodes they will cause bad starting and idling...

Sorry I wasn't clear. Your fuel filter will never be full, nor should it be. When working correctly you will see some fuel in the filter -- a small amount or maybe half full. This is normal.
What you need to worry about is the fuel bowl. After it sits, but before you attempt to start the engine, it should display fuel in the site glass. * If it does show, the pumping the accelerator pedal can work. * If it is not showing in the site glass, that is a problem and will make it difficult to start.
