I dropped the block off to be honed and the head for a valve grind.

I also found some new heavier progressive rate valve springs today they are 240lb at full lift. Considering the stardard units are 100lb it should be plenty for 8000rpm and plenty of boost. Progresive rate is a newish technology apparently.

Start making turbo manifold next.

Block is honed, the head is reco`d. going together sunday. I was going to buy a good head gasket from Dundee1000 but decided to use a cheapy. Budgets already blown, lets hope the head gaskets not next!

$50-Second hand engine.
$70-Full gasket set.
$60-cast rings.
$80-Hone engine.
$200- Head reco.
$165-ARP head studs
=====
$625... More than i wanted to spend!

I just want the rings and the valves to seal.

Im not going to get too fussed with looks(manifolds etc). As long as i can get the air and fuel into it i`ll be happy.
The engine won`t be in there for long.

Just remember with your guesses, its a stock engine! except for valve springs and head studs.
Im loving the optimism tho!

About $230 USD + shipping. I figured a blown head gasket might save the bottom end.
Standard should be fine if i keep temps under control and the tune well away from detonation.

Stock head gasket is like a fuse, it blows out before your motor does and will blow out pretty quick with 15psi. With a stock motor and stronger head gasket it will hold together a bit longer but probably cause more expensive damage to the rest of the motor.
