ok, i started to do a few minor repair to the shell of my ute today, i am lead loading the small imperfections, instead of using bog as it is not waterproof.. oh and i am also mig welding everytging too but the lead is used where it is important to have a very good finish with no bog....

Ive done a fair bit of it. We used a wooden padle and warm it up using a lpg torch then rubbed it on bees wax to help move the lead around. I think we used to use 60/40 lead.
We would tin the panel first using a tinning compound and spread it using the lpg torch and steel wool.

Those were the days!

How are you going with it?

I was told by the "experts" that nobody uses lead for bodywork when I enquired about where to get the compound. You can imagine the firey thoughts going through my head about where I was going to jam that stuff once I find it.

So where might I find it? :D this so called "expert" couldn't even tell the difference between a tight panel and bog!

Most solders are high in lead, but I expect there is special lead sticks and flux for body work?
I used soldering iron solder and brass wire of the same radius to get the gap right on my bootlid..
