Had a great time down at Bathurst. Met up with b310gx who was also competing, as well as teretonga, AFRacer, and ca18det_man who all came out on Saturday. Great to be able to put some faces to the names from the club, and you couldn

Hi Harry,

Glad you made the long drive home OK and hope the Patrol allowed you to pass the odd Servo without refilling! Congratulations on your class win on Saturday. How did you fare on Sunday's Hill climb?
I was really impressed with your pedalling and the coupe's set up and preparation and your cage is definitely two thumbs up. The sound of a side draught powered L series down the end of Conrod is totally magnificent - if we set aside A series or BDA's for a moment! Hopefully next year we'll have ca18det_man's and converteds coupes there as well. Did Paul get his 'box sorted for Sunday?

Thanks mate. Yeah, it would be great to have a few more 1200's there! I might see if I can twist Steve's arm and get him to come down next year too. The old Patrol ran fine all the way, but definitely is a little thirsty when towing - averaged 19.2l/100km! and with a 60l tank you don't get to drive past too many servos...

I had another class win in the hillclimb , the dipper was a massive adrenaline rush - all you see as you're about to turn in is a wall of bitumen and a bright green concrete wall not too far behind that! But you could take it surprisingly fast - it was a 3rd gear corner and the car gets a little light (not surprisingly) as you come over the crest of it

Paul and Gary got the box changed and were back at the track the next day, and Gary won the <1600 class in the Sunny. I can only imagine how fast they'd be if they had race tyres!

Hey Harry Glad you enjoyed the weekend Your car looked great on the track makes me want to pull my finger out and get mine going again. I think Ian (teratonga) has convinced me to build a decent cage to hold the poor little shell together a bit better.
What times did you end up with on sunday?? My mate in the Vg30 powered torana run 30 flat Last time I run the Ca18 there I run 30.21 official time but have run high 28's (unofficial handheld timing not digital) like it is now.
Have a good Xmas ect Im up to queensland this weekend catching up with some freinds selling some datsun parts and picking up my new diff and GTR front brakes.
Talk to you soon
Andrew

glad to hear you're going to do that new cage - you won't regret it. It was also reassuring to hear that another 1200 had the same cracks as mine got before the cage went in! They obviously weren't designed to cope with the cornering forces that race tyres can generate.

Bathurst will be even better next year with your 1200 on the track as well, and hopefully a few other 1200s will make it out there too.

I got a 32.5 on Sunday's hillclimb. I was pretty happy with that considering how steep the place is. It was basically an uphill drag race with only one real corner you have to brake for in the middle of it. And the track is so steep after the dipper, my poor old thing barely had enough grunt to accellerate at all after that point! But I've got a new engine going in early next year, thanks to a mate, with an extra 20bhp at the wheels

I was thinking about arranging to meet up with you at Kev's while you're up here - I haven't met him yet, and I'm sure he'd be an interesting bloke to chat to. Wouldn't mind checking out his cars too. But I'm away this weekend on a bit of a 4WD trip.

Have a safe trip (you were right about the Newell - so much better and quicker especially for towing) and a great xmas & new years. See ya
Harry

Let me know if you guys are planning on catching up at Kev's and I shall drop in and say g'day as well.

Craig

P.s. Harry- You were right about my rear suspension setup. Chief technical officer knocked me back. I will be racing in street registered IP U2L at hillclimbs. You suck.

Harry,
The car looks sweet and very nicely balanced.
Are you on slicks or R's?
I have to say that I'm VERY envious of you guys. That is one event that I would dearly love to have a crack at.
Keep the photos coming.
Cheers
Dave

Its on R's. I'm using a Hankook Z2000S 205/60*13 - I got a few sets acouple of years ago because an importer was selling them cheap $50ea! They had exceeded their 5yr shelf life, but they still seem to work OK.

It's handling better than ever. I had a chance to do a test and tune day just a couple of weeks before Bathurst - first one I've done since the cage and wide track. I probably should have done it sooner, because you don't really have much opportunity to tune at events. Anyway, I managed to make some headway with the swaybar and toe settings which have really got it working well.
