thats my ultimate goal. I know its a pretty common conversion for the 1200s around the california area. As far as i know they fit in with little modifications, leaving the fire wall standard which is usually a good thing. This is the non turbo version though, Im not sure how the turbo or twin turbo VGs fit.

Hi there I have helped fit a Vg20 V6 into a 1200 ute it fited quite well. It had to have a larger tunnel fitted and custon extractors to clear the steering. Its being wired at the moment. In my opinion is not really that good a conversion as they are not really that powerfull and also quite heavy maybe a Vg30 with turbos would make it more interesting but would find it hard to legally register it.
If going for a 2ltr I woudl go Sr20de anyday over a Vg20.
Cheers Andrew

The guy from the article who did the conversion is from AU. Apparently, a few other guys in his area have done the same conversion.

I've yet to see a running and driving car here in SoCal or any pics on the web. Has anybody else seen anything?

Anyway, the article doesn't tell how to do the conversion. It mostly talks about upgrading other things on the ute.

You also have to take into account the increased weight, what the effects might be.

This is the swap I'm going with. A VG33ER would do nicely in the little 1200

Eddies ute is local to me. I know the original owner that did all the work but he unfortunatly sold it a few years ago to go live in Europe. He's back now and has moved on to other projects.
I helped with the brake setup on it. Unfortunatly he never finished updating the website and now has lost abit of interest since its not his anymore.
Originally it was built and registered with a VG20 but that soon changed as soon as the rego plates got bolted on.

does anyone know of any other datto's around 1960 - 1974 that would be an easy fit for the vg30 as i want to put twin toyota superchargers on it as it doesn't have to be a fast car just one that stands out from the croud
