In many other countries the KA24DE was only fitted to FWD cars, but in USA we can buy these cheap $600 with RWD 5-speeds.

NOTE: so much torque, it's illegal in Australia to swap these into a 1200

Nissan 240SX (S14) with KA24DE
154 HP @ 5400 RPM
160 lb-ft torque @ 4200 RPM

* SEFI fuel injection
* forged steel connecting rods
* forged steel crankshaft

Also fitted to S13 and Datsun pickups. And a bunch of FWD models.

They are cheap because guys remove them to fit SR20DE (which makes less power) or SR20DET (which makes more).

KA engine replaced the Z-series so shares bellhousing and motor mounts with L and Z engines. Relatively easy swap.

There is a guy here in Daytona that is doing a pretty cool Turbo build on one of these for his 240SX. I was surprised at how small it was dimensionally compared to the SR20DE that I have been messing with. I guess the only down side is how tall it is because of the longer stroke but the rest of the engine package is or at least seems a lot smaller than the SR.

Title should say Japanese Muscle the American Way! :)

Theres a big sleeve and stroker kit for the ka24de so 3 litres isnt far.
Might have to one day live in the states take my datsun there get a Gaerte
3.2 with boost and T5 box then bring it back to Australia as a personal
import and enjoy the biggest pushrod all alloy 4 cylinder with American
chev cheap and simple to get parts.

if the car weighs 800kg from factory then x 3, 2400cc is legal 2000cc for boost.
Z22 crank will be an L20b block with Ka24DE head should be legal in an 1200.

A 1200 weighs less than 800kg doesn't it?

KA is overhead cam, but the Chevrolet-based engine is pushrod

I thought the heaviest was the 1200 deluxe wagon at 785-805kg?
I think its safe to say a 2.2 litre would be the limit hence
the z22 cranked L20b/Z20/KA20 would be the key with lower height
than the 2.4 engines.
