Danny this completely depends on your skill level. I'd say 5000 - 35000 depending on how neat, how wild, and how bad you are with doing it yourself.

The general costs of a 1200+CA18DETtransplant, have been discussed well over 5 times on this site. Please become familiar with the Search Facility in the Left Menu Bar.

Regards,
Chris.

Hi mate
I picked up a CA18DET with new turbo, gearbox, new clutch, computer and loom for $1500. If you are paying someone else to do the installation expect it to cost between $5000 and $8000 for a professionally completed job with a mod plate, intercooler, exhaust etc. This price range doesn't include the motor, gearbox etc or brake and diff upgrades.
Regards Matty

I payed $2000 for a complete half cut here in WA and have done 90% of the install in the back shed.

My advice is what ever figure you come up with times it by 3. Every car I have built has gone over budget. My coupe was suposed to be a $7000 project. Its 80% complete and thus far is a $21 000 car.

That's a very smart way of looking at it old school. I'm in the same boat as I bought my ute to have a bit of fun and make trips to the tip easier while renovating my house. Famous last words.

I could get you a CA18E for much cheaper than those prices then I'd spend the $ on a CA18DET, does anyone know if the CA18E and DET use the same mounting points? it might be cheaper than buying an S13...
