very nice looking work.

but...

I'm a little concerned as to how well the headers will work as the cylinder pairing goes against convention.

on a 4 cylinder engine with a 1-3-4-2 firing order such as the sr20,

with a 4 into 2 into 1 header design,

the cylinders are usually paired 1 and 4 together and 2 and 3 together,

as this provides the best scavenging leading to better cylinder filling on the intake stroke.

I hope the builder of the branch now what he is doing, otherwise het will have a few issues and building a new one is on the cards for him.

I'd have to chip in and say that branch is not going to do you any favours. Even cast OEM manifolds pair them together 1+4 and 2+3.

Its actually more common to pair the branches as per his headers 1-2 3-4 or 1-3 2-4 as you get the pulses happening one after another in the same branch, check out the likes of http://www.hytechexhaust.com/ or www.burnsstainless.com if you dont believe me, However the 1-4 2-3 pairing is still common on V8s as I believe that gives the best results for their firing order.
Those collectors and the collector outlet size (which looks too big) are going to have more effect on power than the pairing will. So I wouldnt get too hung up on the pairing
But as he said, he just wants it running so they'll do the job just fine!

The one thing we need to understand here, I don't know what to expect, neither know what wil work and what not seeing that I want torque from down low and not just a bunch of killerwatts at the top to rave at my buddies about.

I told the builder, more power down low and a usable rev range throughout the rev range, for now, the setup is just fine as nick_m said, as it seems that he actually understand the situation. If I had my way, I would have cut the standard cast mani, welded a flange to it, to get the car moveable. Having to push it around is crap. His reputation is on the line if it is a total screwup, not mine. Currently I do not have the time to build it myself, so it was outsourced. This way I can atleast open the bonnet in public without shaming myself to death or having a scrutineer fail the car before an event.

If the car is running, and I have decided to not rebuild half off it, to get everything working, first on the cards will be the exhaust, made from mendrel bends and the the same treatment for the branch, with decent imported merge collectors.

All this in preparation for the new motor. As things stand currently, I just need something to let the exhaust gasses exit the rear of the car and as silently as possible. You may then ask why spend all the time painting and wrapping it, well, I'm proud of the car and in my workmanship, and to add, the coils is more expensive than the branch, so I do not want to boil them.

FYI my genie extractors are cyl 1 and 4 and 2 and 3, never had an issue and they perform well.

Genie used to be the bees knees once upon an era when our cars were new racetech.

please understand that I wasn't out to start a s@#t storm with my comment about the pairing.

The firing order, as I mentioned is usually what determines the cylinder pairing with 4 into 2 into 1 headers.

Is is common practice for 4 cylinder engines with the 1 3 4 2 firing order to pair cylinders 1 and 4 together and 2 and 3 together.

It's tried and proven, sorry nick_m.

My Nissan Motorsport headers for my Group 2 FIA L series cylinder head are paired this way, and I'm sure it's for good reason, I'm sure Nissan had done their homework on these afterall they were competing in the World Rally Championship at the time.

cool!

very nice build, you must be very proud of your engineering abilities and the results...

and have way too much time on your hands.

It must be my lucky weekend, once I figured out my little fuel pressure issue, starting this motor could not have been easier.
Hell it was to easy, I just followed the first startup procedure and bang, it started.
And since then playing around with it, it just got better.

Excuse all the rattles, a lot of stuff is still lose in and around the car.

Here is a vid:

and another:

Still a lot of stuff to sort out, need to spend time on the DASH, but that will happen with time.
