I'm thinking of buying a pair of carbs for my A-15, and I was wondering if all Mikuni/Solex 40/44mm PHH sidedraft carbs are the same? In other words, if I get the linkages and
manifold for an A-15, will Solex carbs from a 510 or even a Fiat, Triumph, or VW fit on my A-15? The same question goes for Weber 40/45mm DCOE's, are they interchangeable or specific
for each engine?

They are all pretty much interchangable mate.
You would just have to re-jet them and play around with choke tube sizes once
its up and running.
Hav fun

We've been talking about this little. I don't think anone has done this in the club. I suspect the OHC engine may hit on the hood. Although I think I remember someone
in South Australia giving this a go. But it involved mount mods etc.

I don't know of any EASY (using stock parts) method to achieve the L16 transplant.

The linkages need the mounting posts appropriate for the manifold being used. I would expect the manifold manufacturer to also supply the linkages.

All DCOEs are similar in size, but with different choke sizes. I don't expect that the linkages would differ between 40mm or 45mm webers.

The a15 will have different jetting/choke requirements, however they may be close enough. Especially if they came from a stock or warm L16 engine. This won't be the case if
they are from a fullhouse 2.4L L20B.

For a warm a15 I would expect twin 40s would be more appropriate to develop low down torque (due to increased gas velocity).

I don't know much about the mikunis/solex models.

Chris.

I'm currently trying to put an L18 in a 1200 coupe and coming across the same difficulties.

What I have found out is that you you need to make up some custom engine and gearbox crossmember mounts, as nothing from other models seem to fit.

Good gearboxes to use seem to be the stanza or stumpy skyline 5spd as these are a bit shorter than normal but fit within the standard tunnel however you may need to cut a new
hole for shifter in the tunnel.

Keep at it as I have it on good authority that the mods required aren't that difficult. Once we get a bit further down the track I'll let you knwo what we have found out.
