G'day guys,

This topic is an Expression of Interest about a group buy for Custom Composite Leaf Springs for our 1200's from a US company called Flex-Form. Website=Flex-Form

This topic is also a continuation of a discussion about this product.

JC whitney leaf springs

A useful link to another forum with a 28-page discussion regarding these type of springs can be found here.

http://www.311s.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=10068

Myself and "ogyris" (Aka Justin) have been in contact with Mark from Flex-Form about the possibility of making up a large order to suit 1200's.

Mark has advised us that he has made custom springs for 1200's and can make them to suit any spring rate and can make variations to dimensions no problem.

Mark has offered a volume based discount for orders of 8 sets or more. The base price is usually $425 a set but will be reduced to $390. The discount may be greater if we order more.

I have begun discussing with him freight options and he tells me that 3 pairs should be able to fit in one parcel costing $160-$180 shipped via air parcel.

I have asked Mark to make enquiries about the possibility if ship based freight as this would have far greater savings. I'm still awaiting a reply.

As it stands at the moment freight will cost between $53-$60 which works out to be $443-$450 a set.

Please only express interest if you are genuinely willing and able to afford AT LEAST this amount. Obviously the ship based freight would be ideal but if it's not available, I personally am still happy to pay this price for a set.

I think this may have been discussed before and not enough people could commit but it seems that there may be more interest in this product now.

I live in Greater Melbourne (Melton) and I would be happy to drop of any springs between here and the CBD. Freight to other states will be at the buyers cost.

Cheers,
Joe.

Yeah that would be great of anyone has any input.

Mine is a '76 Ute. Plan to eventually have a mild LZ Hybrid. Street car 95% of the time. Don't really plan to carry anything in the back but would still like the option there. I think 2" lower would be plenty. Don't want it to be too stiff and ride like a pig over bumps though.

Rear will have Koni Adjustables.

Front will be 1200 struts with coilover sleeve kit, 200-225lb kings with KYB inserts.

13" wheels

I appreciate that you are trying to help the community.

Very much so.

However, there is a problem that I can see with "Bulk Orders".

In the past when I have grouped parts with the expectation of saving freight costs, but unfortunately as soon as the invoiced total exceeds $1000 our Australian government decide to hit you up for import duty and GST.

This usually adds about 21% to your price.

The best way I can see this working is to have the springs made in bulk (as a group buy) but either shipped as individual sets, or perhaps sets of 2 for buyers who live close to one another.

Just my 2c worth.

I am interested in a pair if this can be made to work.

Sure mate we will see what we can do and thanks for the info. I had no idea about the tax.

The sender declares the amount though correct? And it isn't verified?

Maybe shipping in smaller sets may work better to avoid domestic freight from Melbourne. Ie there might be a few people in sydney, melbourne, brisbane etc.

I have no idea what the original leaf spring rate for the 1200 coupe or sedan is. Perhaps nissan might know. Mark did say the typical orders he gets for our beloved car is 175 - 220 lbs spring rate. I would want closer to original whatever that is!

Above thread is only few days short of 10 years ago! since they caught my eye but low Aussie dollar said forget it. Not sure about 1000 compatibility to the 1200 but if they are, Sykine if alright with you? Im interested in a set with the settings you choose as my current ones r completely flat with extra leaf & quite happy with them.
It only works out to below $1000 for 2 sets not 3 so as to avoid 10% import tax savings Im in. I sadly got flogged that when paid 6 dollars over the limit for an electric engine that was already discounted from the US some years ago.

I cant remember all that was written but can anyone have a view of the composite setup that developed a crack or had a crack when delivered? atm my connection is so slow!.
It was on the fairlady site I linked on the JC whitney thread.

It cracked after modifying the bush hole and re-gluing. The guy from flex form made a new set.
